Description

The Head of Design will have overall global responsibility of production work completed by the design team and for providing the strategic trend, consumer, marketing direction for the specific category, while inspiring creativity and ensuring designs are completed to the highest standards. This position is responsible to inform the design team of the trends and product innovation relevant to the consumer of our brand as well as lead the team thru the calendar process and set expectations. Establish control-related standards and procedures.



Key Responsibilities:
•Sets overall direction in the conceptual development of product lines. Fully responsible for ensuring that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy; interprets international/domestic concepts and fashion trends as it relates to market demands, company image and business strategy. Responsible for strategic direction of the brand through full integration of Product and Marketing, while ensuring Brand is protected while moving forward.
•Fully responsible for managing staff in all aspects of entire product design process to include market research, inspiration board creation, designing, sketching, tech pack creation, and fit. Responsible for managing and providing creative direction to design staff and for identifying and executing opportunities for process improvement through subordinate staff members. Responsibilities include the selection, training, motivation and evaluation of design staff.
•Responsible for overseeing the selection of fabric and trim.
•Provides overall recommendations and sets tone regarding style and fit of product(s) during presentation.
•Ensures consistency of look between differing businesses (e.g., knits/sweaters/wovens/denim) by working closely with team.
•Ensure global direction is communicated through active sharing amongst the three zones.
•Responsible for presentation of designs at line reviews and product launch.
•Promote cross functional work to ensure consistency of Brand message is enhanced and protected. (M&D; Marketing; Sales)
•Responsible for knowledge of cost components and ability to design products that hit margin targets.
•Adhere to all calendar dates.
•Partners with development to ensure commercial success of seasonal line offerings and innovative advanced products. Manage the trim development process to ensure we are developing a consistent brand message across categories. Partners with material sourcing to develop innovative fabrications. Partners with Product Directors to develop line direction from product conception through final execution. Required to understand market structure and distribution points for all assigned collections and categories.

Qualifications



Education/Experience:
•Years of Related Professional Experience: 8-10.
•8-10 years design experience with 2-3 years of management experience
•Associate/Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design or related field Pattern rendering experience is a plus Multimedia experience is a plus Experience in flat sketching expertise.
•Hands-on experience with CAD software, Softworks, Rhino, Cad Key Experience in creation of design packages and execution of product designs.
•Experience in designing successful products Experience in research and analysis and design cycles.

•Ability to set overall creative tone and lead creative design process
•Thorough knowledge of the global lifestyle/action sports market
•Excellent presentation, listening, verbal, and written communication skills
•Defend and effectively sell a point of view to both peers and upper management
•Excellent leadership/management skills
•Ability to deal with managerial issues
•In-depth knowledge of design techniques and processes
•Excellent sense of style and color
•High level of Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Powerpoint
•Strong knowledge of formulating color palettes.
•Strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction
•Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present concepts to product teams and review boards in a persuasive manner.
•Strong and experienced in leadership
•Strong knowledge of product cycles.
•Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes
•Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different
consumers and end uses.
•Strong knowledge of textile and material construction and properties.
•Strong knowledge of product costs and impact of design.

Special Requirements:
•Up to 25% travel
•Ability to travel domestically and internationally
•Bend, Lift and move product up to 25 pounds
