Whats up everyone, I always wanted to work in the skate industry, specifically in the San Francisco bay area. I want a job after I graduate from college next spring. This summer would be a good opportunity to intern for a company, but the industry in the bay is not as big as it is in southern California. I've contacted Deluxe and Thrasher, but so far they don't need anyone. Any ideas/ advice?

Why don't you give NHS a shot?

It's in the awesome town of Santa Cruz. Seems that they always have entry level positions opening up. I've actually been trying to get in there for some time.

Pay isn't what you would get in San Francisco or San Jose but the experience and portfolio building is second to none in the industry.

Good luck!

What are you interested in doing in the skate industry?
I've gotta say what I gotta say, and then I swear I'll go away, but I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise...

Jobs right after college have to be the biggest challenge. That "foot in the door" move is sometimes hit or miss and always represents a hurdle when it comes to setting yourself apart from others.
One thing that I have learned and have come to preach as gospel, is the old "Its not what you know, its who you know"
While name dropping is always in poor taste and confirms you as an amatuer, networking is seen by most companies as a talent and desirable skill. So, go show them you know how to do it. You must be on a first name basis with all shop owners and shop managers. Find out where and when those guys and girls skate and go session with them. They can and often will introduce you to company reps and because company reps need to keep shop owners happy, the reps will often go out of their way to entertain your questions.
Those conversations will lead to opportunities and leads. After that, its up to you.
