This is probably a stupid question....but there is no such thing, right?

I have been selling board products (surfboards and wakesurfers) for a friend. I am being paid "by the board" (not very much). Is that normal in this industry? What is the standard rate on surfboard commission in this industry?

This must be a stupid question because I have had 102 views and no responses. This forum is not helping at all.

Usually sales rep make a percentage from their overall sales.

OK, thank you.

What would you consider an "industry standard" percentage, 10%?

I do not have any concrete numbers for the action sport industry. In the clothing industry (outside the ASI) reps make 10-15% of there sales.

I have read on this site of sub-reps? Do you have any insight on that?

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I appreciate your feedback.

Sub rep is just like an assistant, usually hired and paid by the rep and not the company.

Surfboards are usually in the 7% to 9% range depending on their retail value and dealer margin.  Lesser known brands usually pay more than established ones.  As a sub-rep you could expect 30% to 55% of that commission depending what expenses are covered by the primary rep.
