I've been trying to break into the world of skateboard deck design. I've had contact and positive response from large and small deck companies but...in the end I didn't get any work. Any insiders have any advice on breaking in? My design taste is broad but a few of the more arty designs can be found here.

Some of those top sheets would be banger die-cut base designs, but would need to be a bit simpler.

Try starting off with some skateboard shops if need be to add some work to your portfolio.  There really isn't much money to be made with designing decks, but it sure is fun.  Here's some graphics I just did for Evolution Skateboards in San Antonio, Texas.

you could see if there is a small shop in your hometown, and start designing specifically for them. Really, though, you should try to get into the specific company you want to work for first (through any means) and then present your designs. I think that's the only way you'll earn a living off this. Good luck! a you have some great ideas!
