The Breakdown: Critical role in the Burton global organization to collaborate with finance, operations, merchandising, buying, and other key cross-functional partners to create and execute an OTB to achieve or exceed sales, margin, and inventory goals. This role is within the global architecture of the business and will be key to setting strategy for all regions including North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. What You Get to Do: Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned) • Ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans that are reflective of merchant strategy. • Creates, optimizes, and maintains OTB at the sub-sub category level for all Burton DTC categories, incorporating business intelligence marketing while working alongside buyers throughout the process. • Deep understanding of all retail metrics and relationships between inventory, sales and margin. • Continuously improve forecasting techniques, methodology, and approach, striving for excellence at all times. • Ability to work autonomously without strict boundaries on a day-to-day basis to innovate and trail blaze new more efficient processes and workflows. Innovate and implement change, proactively cultivating new strategies to enhance company efficiencies • Take initiative to conduct analysis, making recommendations to maximize profitability of a product or product category and the overall assortment. • Work collaboratively with buyers to identify inventory imbalances and suggests appropriate actions (promote and/or clearance) where needed to maintain targeted inventory levels • Review promotions and sales calendaring for all DTC product categories. Identifies items that have availability, understock, or overstock risks and communicates with development, marketing, and buyers as needed to minimize disruption and maximize opportunities as they present themselves. • Leads regular OTB meetings with buyers and Director of Global Merchandising to review OTB relative to comp, original, and working plans in order to achieve or exceed sales, margin, and inventory goals. • Exhibits an awareness of external factors that might impact business performance (ex: economic outlook, weather, competition, etc.) • Monitor SKU levels and recommend SKU rationalization initiatives in the future • Fulfill demand through stock-to-sales analysis and corresponding actions Lead analysis of categorical past performance data and identify missed opportunities What You'll Bring to the Team: • A minimum of seven years as a retail or demand planner for omni-channel businesses in a dynamic environment. Preference may be given to those who have worked in the outdoor or action sports industries. • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college/university or relevant experience required. • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and the ability to distill data from multiple sources into cogent reports. • Strong understanding of retail math and comprehension of the relationships between price, rate, margin, and inventory. • Experience with SAP and its corresponding BI tool a plus. • Demonstrated work experience in data analysis and project management. • Detail-oriented and pro-active; able to produce with a high level of accuracy and to take ownership for actions. • Demonstrate sound judgment by making effective decisions and being able to support decisions with facts. Includes others in decision making process and makes decisions in a timely manner. • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, to interact with all levels of management. • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, staff and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment. • Knowledge of retail store operations and/or supply chain preferred. • Highly analytical problem solver. • Retail or Commercial acumen - concepts such as promotion, sell-through, margin, distribution mechanics, velocity, seasonality, etc. a must. • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The role uses discretion and independent judgment to make decisions based on financial and sales objectives that commit the company to business actions with significant external and internal impact. Travel Required - Minimal domestic travel may be occasionally required as needed.
