The Opportunity:

We recently opened a new distribution centre in Brampton (Mississauga Road and Steeles area) which supports the distribution and fulfillment needs of many of our leading brands. We have invested millions of dollars in new automation in the facility and we are looking to hire a Customs Compliance Coordinator to join our Distribution team.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibilities of the Customs Compliance Coordinator are to assist in connections with the day to day customs compliance of import and export for all VF Outdoor Canada brands, exclusively to perform HS tariff classification, preferential tariff treatment and duty rates for all brands.

Key Responsibilities:
Maintains VF Outdoor Canadas operational compliance with customs and related trade regulations for imports and exports. Act as the secondary contact for company personnel as well as customs brokers to resolve entry issues compliantly and timely to avoid delays in shipment delivery.
Monitors and updates internal systems to ensure all necessary data tables are up to date and accurate.
Interfaces with U.S. departmental counterparts as needed in the collection of information and evaluation of technical product details.
Works in conjunction with the logistics team to report, collect and track import/export shipment data required for the purpose of filing duty drawback or other refund claims with CBSA.
Prior to and after importation, investigate discrepancies and/or errors on vendor commercial invoices and shipping documents.
Maintain responsibility for customs record retention. Ensure all required records from customs broker are accounted for, reviewed for document integrity and filed appropriately. Periodically review storage of documents archive as necessary to remain organized and current.
Participate in and coordinate miscellaneous projects as directed by the Manager of Customs Compliance.
Arrange payment of duty/tax and brokerage fee.
Prepare export documentation for outbound shipments.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
Minimum 3 years of experience in a customs broker or a customs compliance capacity
College degree preferred
Professional designation Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) preferred
Solid knowledge and experience in tariff classification, preference programs and FTA for wearing apparel, footwear and outdoor equipment (packs, sleeping bags, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
Ability to manage and organize large amounts of data
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Must be flexible and willing to accept change
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
