3D Footwear Modeler: Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family
Vans, the original action sports footwear company since 1966, is searching for an innovative and talented 3D Footwear Modeler who has the unique scope and ability to work directly with both footwear and apparel teams. As a designer, you will use your creative and technical skills to motivate and inspire designers to achieve new 3D virtual samples that are constantly better than the last season. You will be faced with the exciting yet rewarding challenge to create and implement 3D Virtualization strategies in footwear. The team will innovate both 3D virtual samples and drive the 3D design technology and process in the Product Design department as a whole. Your efforts will greatly impact the end product for footwear and will speak to directly to the consumer.

How You Will Make a Difference:
This position works directly with the Footwear design teams on the creation of 3D virtual samples.
Responsible for partnering and communicating with Merchandising on 3D virtual samples to create presentation assets.
Responsible for partnering and communicating with Development to execute on 3D prototyping requests and revisions for new designs.
Explore and discover innovative digital techniques to create concepts that elevate design within the brand.
Proactively create 3D design opportunities within the brand.

Skills for Success:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 4+
Educational/ Position Requirements:
Bachelors degree from a four-year college or equivalent in Industrial Design, VFX Digital Animation
4+ years 3D Design Experience: Modo, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Cinema 4D, Blender, Zbrush, Rhino, Solidworks, Keyshot, Colorway
Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Keynote
Experience building motion graphics and animations strongly preferred
Experience in 3D printing equipment, 3D scanning strongly preferred
Experience in working with design tech packages and executing of product designs strongly preferred
Experience in designing successful products
Experience in research and analysis and design cycles
Experience in developing advanced concepts
Experience building design presentations
Skills
Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present and critique concepts in a group setting
Must be capable of working within a team environment
Ability to manage multiple projects during the product creation cycle
Knowledge and understanding of apparel and footwear construction
Knowledge of product cycles
Knowledge of manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses
Knowledge of textile and material construction and properties
Knowledge of product costs and impact of design
Willing and able to grow skillset as time and techniques change

Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
May have to work with hazardous materials (Designer should take precautions when using these materials to eliminate any health risks)
Bend, lift, open and move product and related office items varying in weight from 1 to 25lbs, depending on need
Periodic travel required (< 10%), including air travel
