o Teach and manage your designers in a positive and constructive manner while encouraging accuracy and urgency for all projects
o Build and maintain strong partnerships with the other design departments, production, tech, merchandising, sales
o Filter communication between sales team, SMU designers and sourcing team making sure deadlines are met
o Drive overall process related to SMU design and execution
o Manage department standards and daily work flow
o Manage calendar and deadlines
o Keep VP of M&D updated and in the loop on all SMU styles and any urgent matters
o Consistently identifying opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency within the division
o Submit new SMU designs to Global liaison for approval
o Identify SMU product opportunities by knowing the O’neill seasonal lines and by researching key accounts and the competition
o Be aware of inline product, fits and key initiatives
o Recognize market needs based on historical selling. Anticipate the needs of our SMU accounts
o Interpret the SMU requests to facilitate accurate, trend-right product while maintaining the brand DNA
o Initiate and direct SMU print, color and silhouette needs
o Manage and oversee the creation of visual tools used in CAD presentations to Sales department and various accounts
o Work with design team, sales and sourcing to hit pricing / margin goals
o Create an environment where the design, sourcing and sales teams work closely together to produce exceptional product in a short time frame
o Responsible for the SMU Design department’s execution of high quality tech packages
o Ability to present concepts and product effectively to management and sales
o Qualified candidates should have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in apparel design
o Proven leadership experience and managerial skills.
o Experience managing teams.
o Ability to juggle projects
o Excellent sense of style and color
o College degree in Fashion Design or related field
o Computer skills – MS Office, Illustrator, and Photoshop
o Strong problem-solving abilities, organizational and planning skills required.
o Works well under pressure and tight deadlines.
o Ability to collaborate with other teams
o Firm understanding of costing and garment construction.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills along with the ability to facilitate meetings
o Experience working with Full Circle/PLM software a big plus.
