Photography Manager

Job Summary
The Photography Manager is an important member of the La Jolla Group shared services team, acting as the studio host and production manager for on-model photo shoots, still-life (flat-lay) shoots, as well as post production and technical imaging projects. Manages, designs and facilitates digital imaging processes and production for marketing, eCommerce and wholesale. Acts as the liaison for all studio production, working under the direction of the eCommerce Director, Art Directors, and brand leadership, and closely with photographers, videographers, production assistants, models and additional contractor support to ensure shoots run smoothly, are cost efficient and within budget, and the production details are professionally managed.

This position is responsible for maintaining the studio, its operations and equipment, and will oversee all functions of traffic, production, and the studio management. This includes scoping, scheduling, tracking and reviewing all jobs, as well as determining, establishing, and maintaining protocol for the archiving of assets (DAM). The Photo Studio Manager will function as the primary venue facilitator and front-line contact with internal departments and outside vendors; assuring that production is well supported and that jobs remain on schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Establishes and maintains effective and creative working relationships with internal teams and vendors.
• Manages the operations of the studio, including procedures, guidelines, infrastructure requirements, etc., in conjunction with eCommerce Director and La Jolla Group creative and marketing leadership.
• Incorporates the needs of brand, wholesale and d2c/ecommerce into the overall studio design, systems and specifications.
• Informs cross-functional partners, both internal and external creatives, in advance about studio capabilities and resources, options, and equipment. Help them integrate resources and make decisions in order to produce work that best serve their initiatives and are cost effective.
• Researches and makes purchase recommendations for photo/video studio equipment, as well as post-production equipment and software, working within budget guidelines.
• Assesses project needs and develops and promotes effective solutions.
• Consults with clients to identify and clarify communications concepts, scope, theme, audio and visual elements, budget, timeline, and priorities.
• Analyzes client request and conceptualizes creative studio solutions allowing the client to achieve their creative vision.
• Assesses and prioritizes multiple tasks, projects, and demands. Manages scheduling, spaces and equipment so that projects can be running concurrently.
• Assigns studio personnel as needed, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. Appropriately assigns resources so that projects will be successful.
• Supports multi-media studio projects.
• Maintains a network of freelance creative resources to assist with projects as needed.
• Coordinates and performs pre-production activities such as schedules.
• Meets with clients to evaluate the effectiveness of finished products.
• Performs administrative duties; composes reports and maintains files and records; disseminates information through written and oral reports.
Job Requirements
Required Skills/Knowledge/Behavior:

• Full understanding of how different types of imaging are organized, managed, and produced; how imaging function spaces, and how photography is performed in a production environment.
• Experience translating creative needs into space, equipment, resources and ultimately asset production.
• Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications, and specialty computer graphics software application packages. Must be proficient on a Mac.
• Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Canon camera equipment, and Capture One.
• Current principles and practices of photo and video production technology and applications in a professional apparel, swimwear and accessories environment.
• Project planning and management principles. Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Must be able to operate a variety of photo/video studio equipment safely and competently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to professionally and effectively interact with staff, colleagues and the executive management.
• Ability to use independent judgment in performing all duties of the position.
• Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to work across a matrixed organization to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Experience working effectively in complex organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse partners, and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities.

Required Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in a professional photo/video studio environment required. Background in photo, video and audio production both in studio and environmental/lifestyle preferred.
• Successful project management experience required.
• Experience managing creative production staff, both in-house and freelancers.
