ABOUT THE ROLE //

The main purpose of the Buyer/Allocator position to maximize sales and profitability of the technical products division (wetsuits, bags & equipment, watches, mountainwear, and footwear) as well as the non-Rip Curl 3rd Party vendor products. This position drives the business through a focus on performance (sales and margin) and plays a key role in determining the optimum product assortments for our flagship retail s tores and licensed airport stores.

Buying – Technical Products

• Meet or exceed all financial goals for all Rip Curl technical product categories including: sales, margin, sell thru%, inventory targets for North America Flagship Retail stores.
• Responsible for seasonal licensed airport store buys for wetsuits, bags and equipment, watches, mountainwear & footwear.
• Responsible for seasonal, chase & reorder buys as needed to achieve planned sales and maximize gross margin—including initial allocation of seasonal buys.
• Responsible for all pre-season allocations.
• Partner with Product Managers and Planning Manager to manage all category stock models on a quarterly basis.
• Responsible for maintaining stock model levels through in-season fills.
• Weekly, monthly, and seasonal data analysis and presentations.
• Partner with Product Managers on seasonal line creation and big ideas to ensure Retail needs are met.
• Partner with Product Managers to define Retail’s seasonal product strategies for the technical product division.
• Oversee system returns, transfers, and consolidations.
• Oversee M3 (data system) order file maintenance.

Buying – 3rd Party Vendor Products

• Meet or exceed all financial goals for non-Rip Curl categories (excluding Footwear and Women’s Accessories): sales, margin, sell thru%, inventory targets for North America Flagship Retail stores.
• Responsible for seasonal, chase & reorder buys as needed to achieve planned sales and maximize gross margin.
• Partner with Merchandise Manager and Planning Manager to manage all category stock models on a quarterly basis.
• Responsible for maintaining stock model levels through in-season fills.
• Oversee allocation of orders by store
• Weekly, monthly, and seasonal data analysis and presentations.
• Partner with Vendors, Merchandise Manager, Area Managers, and Store Managers on store assortments to ensure Retail needs are met.
• Define seasonal brand strategies for non-Rip Curl product categories (excluding Footwear and Women’s Accessories).
• Oversee system returns, transfers, and consolidations.
• Manage purchase order entry process for 3rd Party Vendors
• Oversee M3 (data system) order file maintenance.

OTB Management

• Work closely with the Planning Manager, Merchandise Manager, and Product Managers to manage OTB.
• For Non-Rip Curl product categories (excluding Footwear and Women’s Accessories), actively work with Planning, Merchandise Manager, Vendors and Stores in rotating underperforming stock, either to return/swap, markdown or to outlet.

Store Presentation

• Work with Visual Merchandisers, Merchandise Manager, and PM’s to ensure monthly directives are executed in store.
• Work with Product Managers, Merchandise Manager, Visual Merchandisers, Marketing, and General Manager of Retail Sales & Operations to ensure seasonal big ideas are executed in store.
• Participate in Bi-Weekly store calls.
• Visit stores on monthly basis.
• Competitive shop on monthly basis.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Possess a strong sense of urgency & ownership
• Takes initiative & solution-oriented, driven and motivated to learn and grow
• Highly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to coordinate numerous concurrent projects
• Flexibility of working outside normal working hours
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast growing and changing environment
• Strong presentation skills
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Excellent knowledge in retail math and open-to-buy components
• At least 2 years’ experience as a retail buyer.
• In store retail experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must be passionate about the Rip Curl brand!
