What You Will Do
As the Global Creative Design Director of Mountain Sports & Innovation at The North Face you will help create, shape and lead our design journey from concept through to design. You will define the global creative direction within the Snow, Climb, & Trail, product territory that informs high profile, industry leading, technical & innovative designs with a succinct TNF DNA. Your creative direction will inspire storytelling that is emotionally, culturally and technically rich to our consumers, along with addressing our business needs.

Your creative direction will address a Womens Point of View, Contemporary Design, Market Understanding, Consumer Insights, & Retail Experience. You will lead the concept and a team of designers to execute designs that address the product briefs; collaborating with our Merchandising, Design, Development, Marketing, and all the way to the consumer. Your team of designers will be tasked to create market ready product within margin that meets the consumer fit and function needs for the target consumer, from series level product through to more accessible tiers. Contemporary fit and elevating materials will be a strong focus for this role.

Beyond product design, you will collaborate Global Category Management, and Global Marketing to help develop synergies, marketing opportunities and branding concepts across footwear, apparel and accessories ensuring that the creative vision is executed on throughout the go-to-market process. This will be executed via athlete trips, market trips, and development travel.


How You Will Make A Difference
Lead and drive global long term and seasonal creative direction and product concepts for Mountain Sports (Snow, Climb & Trail) product category.
Responsible for executing individual designs and/or collections within Performance product according to stated product briefs. These designs must be produced with a deep knowledge of product components, costing, target margins, and required FOBs.
Responsible for the Integration of Advanced Concepts and new technologies from inside and outside resources and works to ensure the successful execution of these proscribed inventions.
Manages all in house and outside designers on established corporate time lines. Continually looks for opportunities to develop design team members.
Be the Brand design philosophy champion and custodian for Performance and effectively communicate the consistent territory message within the North Face brand and external clients.
Responsible to align with Regional Design teams in delivering into Global Design concepts
Responsible to work closely with other Territory Design Directors to cross pollinate ideas and maintain seasonal design direction.
Responsible for executing seasonal color palettes for all managed groups (in collaboration with Director Color Design)
Partners with cross functional departments (product, materials, development) to ensure commercial success of seasonal line offerings and innovative advanced products.
Collaborates with Merchandising and required to understand market structure and distribution points for all assigned collections and categories.
Develops and tracks a design schedule to ensure timely completion of designs and design packages according to the development calendar, specifically for Sketch Review and on-time handover to PD
Researches industry and trade shows for new materials, colors, and design trends.



What You Bring
Years of related professional experience: 10+ years of related or similar experience.
Educational:
Bachelor's Degree in Design (apparel), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in flat sketching expertise.
Hands-on experience with CAD software, Softworks, Rhino, Cad Key
High level of Proficiency in In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, PowerPoint
Experience in creation of design packages and execution of product designs.
Experience in designing successful products
Experience in research and analysis and design cycles
Skills:
Strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction
Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present concepts to product teams and review boards in a persuasive manner.
Strong and experienced in leadership
Strong knowledge of product cycles.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses.
Strong knowledge of textile and material construction and properties.
Strong knowledge of product costs and impact of design.
