The Zumiez Product & Brand Services team is responsible for 42+ unique brands spanning various categories, including men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, and snow/skate hard goods. Zumiez PBS Graphic Design Team is looking for a creative self-starter that plays a crucial role in supporting the Graphic Design team while mentoring junior members of the team throughout the creative process. Our ideal candidate is an energetic team player that’s able to create and execute creative direction, lead in project timelines, with the ability to remain flexible, consistent, and detail-oriented while thriving in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Product & Brand Services Graphic Designer is responsible for designing print and pattern for men’s and women’s apparel, miscellaneous accessories, skate hardgoods, and snow hardgoods for a defined number of Zumiez private labels and licensed brands. Also, responsible for leading & mentoring junior Graphic Designers.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design compelling artwork, branding and packaging
• Develop realistic project timelines
• Work from production schedules to manage and lead multiple projects, prioritizing daily workloads, and ensuring established deadlines are met
• Effectively communicate expectations and deadlines to stakeholders
• Act as a mentor to junior members on Graphic Design team
• Complete projects independently based on creative direction
• Present creative direction and design concepts to stakeholders and offer input during creative review meetings
• Responsible for print & pattern sizing, coloring, comments, and specifications
• Be well-informed of performance and department initiatives related to product development
• Create visual presentation tools, brand guidelines, and brand DNA decks
• Research and identify print, pattern, branding, packaging and apparel trends that support brand and customer
• Develop strong partnerships with cross-functional teams and Product & Brand Services counterparts
• Actively identify areas of improvement in processes and proactively find solutions
• Create presentations and product line sheet for meetings with retail buyers
• Travel and research apparel artwork, branding and packaging
• Manage junior level Graphic Designer or Production Artist
• Delegate to and approve tech packs produced by Production Artists
• Other duties as assigned by Manager

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-4 years of experience in Graphic Design
• BA or equivalent course work in graphic design preferred
• Contribute to the Zumiez culture of empowerment, competition, teaching, learning, recognition, fairness, honesty, and fun
• 1-2 years mentoring or managing junior Graphic Designers
• Able to give, receive, and apply constructive criticism
• Ability to present design ideas professionally
• Strong project management and organizational skills with experience in calendar planning and file management
• Product print, pattern, packaging, apparel design experience
• Excellent hand-drawn and/or computer illustration skills
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. Experience with Procreate is a plus
• 3-4 years of experience working with an Apple workstation
• 1-2 years of experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• 1-2 Experience leading and managing projects while maintaining deadlines
• Experience with branding and the ability to adhere to established brand guidelines
• Remain detail-oriented while working in a fast-paced environment
• A balanced mix of creative and technical know-how
• Current with the fashion industry, trends and brands relevant to the Zumiez brand
• Ability to travel approximately 3-4 weeks each year

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to sit/stand in a stationary position in an office environment for extended periods and work on a Mac or PC without limitations. Must be able to distinguish colors and inspect material on the product.
