Overview of role:

The Sr. Manager, Materials and Trims leads the material vision from concept through commercialization, performance testing, and manufacturing. S/he provides vision for the Materials Team in terms of Product, Development, Consolidation of Materials, Cost Reduction, and Job Efficiencies. Committed to delivering the best product in the ride, tri and run categories, s/he crafts and delivers materials that enhance the consumer experience in fit, function, and comfort. The Manager identifies innovative opportunities through extensive market, trend, and industry relationships. S/he will collaborate with Product Line Managers to define and deliver materials specific to seasonal line plans. S/he is responsible for setting and managing the operational calendar for material development and manufacturing.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Manage and lead the Materials Team in fabric development, trim development, and material forecasting and planning.
• Develop specific seasonal materials to support the product creation process.
• Collaborate with Advanced Development on new material vision, development, product placement, and commercialization.
• Establish and communicate calendar dates and delivery deadlines for prototypes, swatches, sales samples, photo shoot samples, size runs.
• Collaborate with PLM and Purchasing team to analyze style projections to determine order quantity by fabric / color and target qualities accordingly.
• Collaborate with Operations to identify and support sourcing strategies.
• Negotiate material prices to protect or enhance gross margin.
• Finalize fabric details, prices, surcharges, lead times and order/color minimums, to meet calendar deadlines.
• Maintain standardized testing procedures and requirements for each stage of product creation: development, photo / sales samples, and bulk production.
• Submit fabrics for testing at each stage, follow up, evaluate, document, and communicate results team.
• Maintain database(s) of materials and status reports.
• Transform all materials to meet PEARL iZUMi’s sustainability requirements.
• Lead the materials team in the creation of a comprehensive, sustainable materials library.
• Additional responsibilities are possible.


Job Qualifications:

• B.S. in materials engineering, textile engineering, textile design preferred.
• 3-5 years leading fabric development in the outdoor industry.
• Thorough understanding of materials and the processes required to ensure successful adoption into product development, commercialization, and production.
• Strong global network of material partners (suppliers / mills) and the ability to interact with them at a high level of business acumen.
• Ability to travel to trade shows and fabric mills.
• Coach internal partners to elevate material knowledge throughout the organization.
• Excellent communication skills that foster collaboration and drives effective decision making.
