Exp.(Yrs) 6 Type Full Time General Function Chaco is an iconic outdoor brand with market leadership in performance sandals, a high growth business in closed-toe performance and lifestyle footwear, and a dynamic accessories offering. The brand has achieved several consecutive years of industry-leading growth by creating remarkable connections with a tribe of loyal consumers known as ChacoNation. The Design Director is responsible for the design vision and strategy for all of the brand’s categories; communicates creative vision and direction to key stakeholders. Primary Duties • Directs the brand’s design team or a category design team and manages design resources. • Researches market and fashion trends in order to design new product that will sell. • Performs all specifications for design packages from beginning to end. • Designs and develops market appropriate footwear within project development guidelines. • Partner with product leadership to set brand-appropriate creative direction for the season. • Ensures that patterns, construction and outsole blueprints are in line with design with overseas factories for production. • Informs Marketing of all key selling features and benefits of finished products. • Performs duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies. • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent work experience • 6+ years footwear design experience. • Strategic thinking and visioning; understands product relevance, positioning, timing and collections. Proven track record of developing and executing large, strategic and vision led programs / transformations. • Strong presentation and communication skills (verbal, written, visual, listening)—inclusive of executive audiences. • Proven ability to build strong relationships and get things done in a matrix-oriented environment—inclusive of leading & influencing leaders • Skills within illustration, whether this being freehand or computer aided (Illustrator/Photoshop/3D) • Proficient with personal computers. • Good organization skills and strong attention to detail. • Ability to meet deadlines.
