Join our team and discover an odyssey in every day.   The VP of Design leads the creative direction for the product function, building a design vision for the Sperry footwear brand, with a focus on brand DNA & clear aesthetic. A strong focus on building seasonal concepts & stories, and leading the design function, prioritizing franchise extension, innovation and white space opportunity. Communicating the creative vision and direction to key stakeholders. Primary Duties • Leads, inspires, and coaches design team and manage design resources, • The creative voice for the Sperry product function that drives alignment with marketing on seasonal creative expression • Oversees and implements the seasonal product creative direction that is in line with the Sperry strategic vision • Owns and maintains the overall aesthetic for the product, in line with the brand DNA • Drives and influences seasonal trend research and builds into consumer facing consumer stories • Drives collaboration with product management & development leadership to contribute toward brand financial targets, whilst delivering excitement to the consumer • Manages the seasonal design process to strike balance between creativity and efficiency. • Drives and influences the material strategy for the brand. • Performs duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies. • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Bachelor's degree in design required or equivalent work experience. • 10+ years of footwear design experience required. • Experience working within a wholesale led footwear brand preferable • Proven leadership skills with at least 5 years’ experience at the director level. • Strategic thinking and visioning; understands product relevance, positioning, timing and collections. Proven track record of developing and executing large, strategic and vision led programs / transformations. • Experience leading and inspiring teams within the design function, harnessing the best of internal talent, as well as bringing the outside in to drive creativity and new ways of thinking • Strong presentation and communication skills (verbal, written, visual, listening)—inclusive of executive audiences. • Knowledge of building design process, that compliments the brand calendar as well as creating space for creativity and research. • Ownership of the key design gates within the calendar • Experience of leading color and material direction, concepts and storytelling, as well as footwear design • Proven ability to build strong relationships and get things done in a matrix-oriented environment—inclusive of leading & influencing leaders. • Skills within illustration, whether this being freehand or computer aided (Illustrator/Photoshop/3D)   WORKING CONDITIONS Normal office environment.
