Wolverine Worldwide’s continued success is driven by our ability to stay true to our simple mission: we empower, engage and inspire our consumers – every step of the way.   The Operations & Technical Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing US subcontractor operations related to quality, on-time deliveries, and maintaining cost efficiencies through effective processes and yields.  Responsible for all technical aspects of leather manufacturing as well as maintaining proper inventory levels. Ensures consistent, profitable growth through actions plans to improve key metrics and deliver highest product integrity.  Primary Duties • Develop, approve, and control the tanning process in order to ensure satisfactory quality standard and high consistency of the wet blue delivered to subcontractors. • Coordinate seasonal developments with the marketing team in the US. • Ensure a proper handover of all the technical input and standards, specification of the product, and training the personnel in the subcontracting tannery for achieving the best and consistent quality of leather. • Maintain chemical costing and technology file in order to investigate relevant improvement options, Chemical price, cost, and productivity. • Oversee and ensure the quality inspection of the manufactured leathers is done in accordance with established standards (KPI’s). • Coordinate and monitor wet blue planning to ensure material needed is in place to fill contractor capacities.  Ensure optimal utilization of the wet blue grades according to the leather types. • Ensure the finished leather stock is maintained and properly stored/protected. • Oversee communication with partners to ensure the division is properly represented. • Assist the subcontracting tannery in all the technical and operational activities in order to maintain and continuously improve manufacturing KPI’s. • Maintain inventory aging: Proper rotation, recoloring, and minimizing overages. • Manage weekly activities to ensure shipments meet targeted period deliverables. • Coordinate with shoe development and technical personnel to address technical queries. • Work with VP of Leathers to maintain proper operating inventory levels, including the reporting of inventories to Finance department at the end of each Period. • Coordinate with Customer Service to ensure proper processing of customer orders, an accurate backlog, and issuance of purchase orders to suppliers/subcontractors.  • Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service to ensure product development activities are planned that will support customer expectations. • Partner with the leather factory liaison to align production claims with sales to ensure quoted delivery dates meet or exceed customer needs and expectations. • Assess, respond and report any major shoe factory claims to management along with proposed solution for settlements • Nurture and grow the largest customer account, New Balance. • Perform duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies. • Perform other duties as required/assigned by manager. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Bachelor’s Degree in Leather Technology, Chemical Processing, or other related field • Degree or diploma in Business Management preferred  • 10+ years’ experience in leather processing with 3-5 years managing a tannery • Strong oral and written communication skills with effective presentation skills (English) • Computer literate with experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint • Results driven, resilient to pressure, organized, and versatile WORKING CONDITIONSNormal office environment and tannery operations, some travel required   The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills which may be required.
