As the Designer- Women's Swim & Performance Sport Category Apparel , you will combine active product use, experience, market knowledge and input from other Team members to create original and innovative designs with a sensitivity to aesthetics that run a spectrum from basics with beauty in simplicity to highly trend relevant silhouettes.

Through market travel and research, product testing, exposure and collaboration to field testers and ambassadors, you will maintain constant exposure to innovations, trends and design evolution within the industry.  Ultimately you will create designs that embrace the Company’s core design philosophy which is to create product that is thoughtful, of the highest quality, functional and with all fabrication done in the most environmentally friendly manner.  While you will contribute to the overall development of the Company’s design concepts for a given season, you will also have specific ownership of particular product lines, which may vary from time to time.  In this role, you will also share industry experiences with other co-workers through preliminary designs, mentoring and professional skill building. The focus will be primarily on Swim and various Performance Sport Categories Apparel, potentially including Mountain Bike and Outerwear.

As our ideal candidate, you are highly skilled in water sports and have experience in Women’s performance Swim. You will also have experience with Sport focus (Mountain Bike and Multiuse Active), Outerwear highly encouraged.


What you Will Do: 
Responsible for the creation of relevant, innovative, seasonal design.
Play a lead role in ensuring the cross-pollination of design concepts and ideas with other designers and teams.
Collaborate with ambassadors and field testing team to create highly functional and field tested product.
In collaboration and cooperation with Business Unit Director, Design Director and Product Line Managers, create seasonal line plans and strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with Materials Team, Business Unit Directors and Product Line Managers to create and source categorically appropriate and innovative fabric constructions.
Collaborate with the appropriate Product Line Manager, Product Developer, Pattern Maker and factory to engineer products that achieve design concepts while meeting target margin goals.
Communicate and present concepts and design information in a concise and professional manner whether in a verbal, written or visual context.
Create mock ups, basic garments and iterate construction ideas in on site product creation facility or collaborate with onsite Patternmakers and Technicians to do so effectively. 
Champion designs through 2D design review.  Thereafter, in partnership with Product Developers, develop fabrics, trims and manufacturing strategies for the products of responsibility.
Provide product information through detailed drawings, mock ups and thorough specifications to Pattern Makers and Product Developers so that prototypes and BOMs can be created in a timely manner.
Partner with Product Developers in providing detailed and complete checklist information when working factory direct. 
Participate in Company sponsored design trips to various locations around the world to spark creativity and innovation in all design concepts.

Experience You Bring:
3-5+ years design experience in the outdoor industry or equivalent required.
College Degree in Apparel or Industrial Design - or - College Degree with 2+ additional years relevant design experience required.
Working knowledge of personal computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programs as: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Excel, Outlook and WebPLM.
Highly developed drawing skills required.
Expertise in garment construction required.
Knowledge of patterns and textiles required.
Basic sewing and construction skills highly encouraged.
Ability to communicate effectively with patternmakers and technicians required.


Pay range: $78,669 - 131,044
Hiring range: $100,000 - $115,000
At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
