As the Designer – Women’s Lifestyle Outerwear, Sportswear & Workwear, you combine active product use, market knowledge and input from other team members to create original and innovative designs. Through market research and travel and product testing/exploration, you maintain constant exposure to innovations, trends and design evolution within the women’s sportswear & outdoor industries.  In this role you will create designs that embrace Patagonia’s core design philosophy, which is to create product that is thoughtful, of the highest quality, function, fit and with all fabrication done in the most environmentally friendly manner.  While you will contribute to the overall development of the Company’s design concepts for a given season, you will also have specific ownership of particular product lines, which will vary from time to time.  We also look to you in this role to share industry experiences with other co-workers through preliminary designs, mentoring and professional skill building. Experience in Women’s Outerwear Classifications, Women’s Sportswear, Women’s Workwear are highly encouraged.


What You’ll Do:
Responsible for the creation of relevant, innovative, seasonal design concepts for a specific category.
Play a lead role in ensuring the cross-pollination of design concepts, trend + visual inspiration research, and ideas with other designers and teams.
In collaboration and cooperation with Business Unit Director, Product Line Managers, create seasonal line plans and strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with Materials Team, Business Unit Directors and Product Line Managers to create and source categorically appropriate and innovative fabric constructions.
Collaborate with the appropriate Product Line Manager, Product Developer, Pattern Maker and factory to engineer products that achieve design concepts while meeting target margin goals.
Communicate and present concepts and design information in a concise and professional manner whether in a verbal, written or visual context.
Create mockups, basic garments and iterate construction ideas in on-site product creation facility and/or collaborate with onsite Patternmakers and Technicians to do so effectively. 
Participate in reviews with the Textile Design Department in the creation of categorical prints and yarn dyes as well as with the Color Department in identifying appropriate color direction and colors specific to the products of responsibility.
Participate in reviews with the Product Graphics Division in the creation of graphics that are appropriate for the products of responsibility.
Assume a leadership role in championing designs through 2D design review.  Thereafter, in partnership with Product Developers, develop fabrics, trims and manufacturing strategies for the products of responsibility.
Provide product information through detailed drawings, mockups and thorough specifications to Pattern Makers and Product Developers so that prototypes and BOMs can be created in a timely manner.
Partner with Product Developers in providing detailed and complete spec pack information when working factory direct. 
Participate in Company-sponsored design trips to various locations around the world to spark creativity and innovation in all design concepts.

Experience You Bring:
College Degree in Apparel or Industrial Design - or - College Degree with 2+ additional years’ relevant design experience highly preferred.
5-7+ years design experience in the womenswear and outdoor industries or equivalent required.
Working knowledge of personal computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programs as: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Excel, Outlook and WebPLM.
Highly developed drawing skills required.
Expertise in garment construction required.
Knowledge of patterns and textiles required.
Ability to communicate effectively with patternmakers and technicians required.
Experience working with wovens, knits, synthetics, and naturals preferred.
Highly skilled in basic stitch, sewing, and new and innovative constructions preferred.
Experience in Women’s Sportswear, Women’s Outerwear, and Workwear Classifications highly encouraged. Outdoor industry experience a plus.
Knowledge of seam sealing constructions highly desirable.
Experience in 3D software & design a plus.
Passion for protecting our natural world, and being an environmental activist highly encouraged.


Pay range: $78,669.98 - $131,044.49 USD Annual
Hiring range: $110,000-$130,000 USD Annual
At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
