Job Title: Size and Fit Specialist/Patternmaker
Reports to: Technical Fit Manager
Location:Ventura, CA

GeneralSummary
Our Size and Fit Specialist positions are based in traditional patternmaking roles and expand into research and assessment around size and fit strategy, and how we communicate with our customers to match them to the right pieces.

Essential Job Functions
Ensure the Company’s standards for high quality, fit, function and reducing environmental impacts are met in all patternmaking creations.
Play an integral part in refining the Company’s block and style pattern libraries including patterns, specs, measurements, photos and organizing sample library. Ensure accurate execution of size and fit as styles are developed.
Work with Designers, Product Developers and Line Managers across all categories to create new styles each season.
Help test, assess, refine and communicate our size strategy through analytics.
Help test and implement digital technologies to improve fit and communications around fit.
Create patterns and mock-ups from preliminary design sketches or ideas.
Collaborate with Designers and Product Developers to create mock-up samples and communicate fit updates to factories.
Create and maintain product specs and advanced construction instructions using Adobe Illustrator and CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex).
Assist in fittings, on body and on form; advise pattern and fit adjustments.
Measure patterns and samples for accuracy in development and production approval.
Work on all categories of Patagonia’s wide range of products.

Physical Requirements
Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
Must be able to travel internationally and domestically utilizing various forms of transportation.

Minimum Job Qualifications
Degree or experience in Patternmaking, Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing or similar
4+ years’ experience in a similar position
Strong 3-dimensional problem-solving skills
Strong knowledge of patternmaking, garment construction, fit and fabric behavior/performance
Ability to interpret design intent from sketches and offer creative pattern and construction solutions
Ability to instruct a manufacturer on necessary pattern changes to influence fit
Understanding of the design, development and merchandising process from inception through production
Sewing experience is a must
Interest in exploring digital technologies to better understand body shape and size
Understanding of grading principles, applied experience a plus
Strong skills in CAD pattern design software (2D required, 3D a plus), Excel and Adobe Illustrator
Aptitude to be trained in Optitex pattern design software, if not currently using
Interest and ability to act as a technical consultant and to mentor others
Essential to be familiar with outdoor industry apparel and performance products
Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills
Extreme attention to detail
Must be able to work in a group dynamic that often includes the disruptive atmosphere inherent to a creative environment.
