Job Title: Environmental Programs Officer
Reports to: Lisa Myers, Senior Manager of Environmental Grants
Location: Ventura, CA


General Summary:
This role is responsible for the strategic development, research, implementation and execution of Patagonia’s environmental funding programs with an emphasis on key priority regions and issues. They are responsible for facilitating and developing relationships with prospective and ongoing grantees, engaging employees as key stakeholders throughout the funding process, facilitating requests through all aspects of the grants process and preparing regular reports on respective funding initiatives and programs.

Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for the strategic development and execution of a number of Patagonia’s key priority regions and issues, consistent with Patagonia’s environmental department’s annual and long-term strategic plan.
Develops, fosters and strengthens relationships with grantees though regular communication, events/conferences and occasional site visits. Serves as the primary grantee contact for all grant-related inquiries.
Works closely with grantees to assess their capacity needs and utilize Action Works and other additional non-monetary support programs and opportunities.
Coordinates all aspects of managing respective grants councils or key stakeholders, including running elections for new members, trainings, preparing materials and coordinating details for meetings.
Assists in leveraging Patagonia’s funding by actively engaging other foundations and other potential donors on relevant issues and opportunities.
When appropriate, act as a liaison with, or convener of, grantees, funders, and other conservation partners to facilitate the exchange of information, ideas and strategies.
Responsible for shepherding grants through our process from initiation through final reporting, which includes all outreach to potential and existing grantees, initiating and managing requests through our grants database platform, communication of grant making decisions, facilitating grant payments and the tracking of all reports.
Responsible for tracking and providing regular reports on respective funding initiatives and programs.
Network with other corporate and foundation grant makers in an effort to stay connected to environmental field.
Assists with the planning and execution of the Tools for Grassroots Activists Conference.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally utilizing various transportation methods.

Minimum Job Requirements:
College Degree in a related field required.
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working with foundations and grants, preferably from a grantmakers perspective.
Advanced degree or commensurate work experience on environmental or conservation issues, such as leadership of a significant environmental campaign
Demonstrated ability to create and implement a program from start to finish; ability to build lasting work relationships with grantees, other foundations’ staff, government officials and other colleagues
Demonstrated knowledge of conservation biology and ecology.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate the Patagonia’s mission and areas of interest to diverse audiences
Basic understanding of the types of capacities important to nonprofit organizations, such as fundraising, governance, planning, evaluation, etc.
Ability to organize and effectively handle multiple projects, meet regular deadlines with consistency and accuracy, work independently while within a team structure, and work under pressure with ease and humor.
Demonstrated ability to handle controversial issues with comfort, subtlety and finesse.
Proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Windows, and Excel. Experience with grants management software helpful.
