Job Title: Senior Size and Fit Specialist/Patternmaker
Reports to: Technical Fit Manager
Location: Ventura, CA
SummaryThe Size and Fit Specialist position requires skills based in traditional patternmaking and will also have responsibility for research, assessment and driving innovations around size and fit strategy. This includes effective communication tools to help customers make appropriate size selections. This role is tasked with solving complex fit challenges from the ideation stage through customer communication.
Essential Job FunctionsEnsure the Company’s standards for high quality, fit, function and reducing environmental impacts are met in all patternmaking creations.
Responsible for refining the Company’s block and style pattern libraries including pattern, specs, measurements, photos; and ensuring accurate execution of size and fit as styles are developed.
Partner with Designers, Product Developers and Line Managers across all categories to create new styles each season.
Test, assess, refine and communicate our size strategy through analytics.
Test and implement digital technologies to improve fit and communications around fit.
Collaborate with Designers to explore new ideas around improving size and fit. Advise changes needed in order to achieve desired aesthetic and work together to provide innovative solutions to design problems.
Collaborate with Product Developers to create mock-ups and communicate fit updates to factories.
Create and maintain product specs and advanced construction instructions using Adobe Illustrator and CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex).
Assist in fittings, on body and on form; advise pattern and fit adjustments.
Measure patterns and samples for accuracy in development and production approval.
Prioritize workload to meet project, department, and/or company deadlines.
Physical RequirementsAbility to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
Must be able to travel internationally and domestically utilizing various forms of transportation.
Minimum Job Qualifications – All LevelsDegree or experience in Patternmaking, Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing or similar
Exceptionally strong 3-dimensional problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of patternmaking and garment construction
Sewing experience is a must
Interest in exploring digital technologies to better understand body shape and size.
Understanding of grading principles
Aptitude to be trained in Optitex computer patternmaking software
Essential to be familiar with the outdoor industry apparel and performance products
Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills – emphasis on visual
Extreme attention to detail
Must be able to work in a group dynamic that often includes the disruptive atmosphere inherent to a creative environment.
Minimum Job Qualifications –Senior Level5+ years’ experience in a similar position
Excellent understanding of the design, development and merchandising process from inception through production
Strong knowledge of patternmaking, garment construction, fit and fabric performance
Ability to instruct a manufacturer on necessary pattern changes to influence fit.
Strong ability to interpret design intent from sketches and offer creative pattern and construction solutions
Skills in data collection (including digital tools) and analytics
Act as a technical consultant and mentor others.
Understanding of grading principles, applied experience a plus
Advanced skills in CAD pattern design software (2D required, 3D a plus), Excel and Adobe Illustrator
