Role: Quality Engineer Intern
Team: Quality, Materials, and Supply Chain
Level: Undergraduate Student
Requirements: Applicants must have graduated in 2020 or be returning to school in the fall of 2020. This is a paid internship that will also include financial support for summer housing and temporary relocation to the area.
Location: Ventura, CA

Internship Overview
As a Quality Engineer Intern for Patagonia, you will work to ensure quality is a paramount consideration from the inception of an idea to mass production of product.  You will work cross-functionally to understand the current product development and manufacturing processes, determine risks and gaps, and propose robust improvements.  You will conduct analytical research to help the quality team reach informed conclusions.  Your work will directly correlate to increasing process and product quality which will enable our customers to keep garments for long periods of time, help Patagonia and our suppliers to reduce waste, and ultimately helps save our home planet.

Improve Quality Process in Development to Ensure Manufacturing Readiness
Develop Metrics to Track Performance

Internship Project
In addition to daily assignments that support your team, you will be assigned a project to complete by the end of the summer. You will present the results of your project at the end of your internship to your team and/or a company-wide audience.
For your project, you will work to clearly define, standardize, and socialize the Quality function's scope of work to take a new style from development into mass production.  This work will include:
Developing a clear understanding of the current-state process
Integrate new or modify current interaction between Patagonia quality and development teams
Determine how to use supplier feedback to maximize production readiness
Create a deployable future-state process to support teams to make the best quality product  

You will need to work cross-functionally within Patagonia as well as with our suppliers to deliver a strong project outcome.  Deliverables from the project will be used by the Patagonia quality team to drive improvement in the development and manufacturing processes to increase product quality, reduce waste, and ultimately help save our home planet.

Experience You Bring
Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or another relevant field
Previous internship experience preferred
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other Process Improvement Tools
Experience using KPIs/metrics to drive decisions
