Role: Product Design Intern
Team: Performance and Accessories Product Design
Level: Undergraduate Student
Requirements: Applicants must have graduated in 2020 or be returning to school in the fall of 2020. This is a paid internship that will also include financial support for summer housing and temporary relocation to the area.
Location: Ventura, CA
Internship Overview
In this role, you will work with designers on the Performance and Accessories team and throughout the entire product design team including, Outerwear, Equipment, Lifestyle and Kids. This may be collaboratively or individually depending on the scope of the project or specific interests.
Specific to the Performance and Accessories team, you will have an opportunity to work with our sport categories including Climb, Mountain Bike, Surf, Swim, Trail Run, Hike and Fish and also with our performance apparel teams – including Performance Knits (Baselayer and Sports Bras), Travel, Body (Intimates) and Accessories for all teams. It is a diverse and exciting product assortment and offers a little bit of everything from exposure to pinnacle technical product R&D to designing for our mission to “Save our Home Planet”.
You will be a part of the research process, be included in design and concept brainstorming and have the opportunity to be hands-on with creating mockups and building products. You will also be exposed to cross-functional teams - including Product Line Management, Product Development, Material Development, and Advanced Research and Design while participating in and supporting various design projects.
What You’ll Do
Product and concept research
Mood board creation and research
Garment and feature mockup creation
Design support with construction specs and garment creation
Team presentation and concept rig build-outs
Internship Project
In addition to daily assignments that support your team, you will be assigned a project to complete by the end of the summer. You will present the results of your project at the end of your internship with your team, and possibly a company-wide audience.
You will participate in and collaborate with the Performance design team on the creation and completion of a design language inspiration deck and guide. This deck will provide guidance and direction to designers while designing so that our apparel maintains a consistent look and is recognizable as a Patagonia product while remaining true to our mission statement and design foundations.

Experience You Bring
Undergraduate student
Previous internship experience preferred
Mastery of the Adobe Illustrator and experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
High level of expertise with hand drawing and sketching
Sewing and product construction skills highly encouraged
Ability to communicate effectively required
