About the job
The Melin Senior Technical Product Designer is responsible for leading Design & Development of Melin products. Ensuring product is 100% ready to order at the time of PO placement as well as for the conceptualization, design, management and execution of Melin’s product range to ensure that Melin is delivering the most premium, innovative and commercially viable headwear in the world while maintaining a focus on premium/ technical performance materials, surprising details and unique innovation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Product Design & Development:
• Work with management to conceptualize seasonal product direction, merchandising themes and oversee the timely presentation of product line design themes and line plan by season according to MnD Calendar.
• Responsible for the design execution of each new design that Melin briefs.
• Responsible for sending out all tech packs and specs on time in relation to the product creation calendar.
• Maintain close communication with development team to ensure accurate and on time delivery of samples.
• Maintain close communication with development team on costing at each development round.
• Coordinate and supervise prototyping with each factory partner from design receipt through the development process at each round.
• Ensure that each spec sheet and design is 100% accurate to the samples.
• Responsible for fit/wear testing: Coordinate fit test samples and test each new material ensuring it hits Melin’s quality level.
• Responsible for the management and delegation of all product graphic design needs from the graphics team to ensure on time and new interior linings are built in to each new design. Also responsible for timely delivery for all new packaging, hang tag, trim design deliverables from graphics team.
• Responsible for concept Cads and Tech Pack setups for all co-branded partnership opportunities as directed by management.
• Responsible to oversee that all co-branded projects are fully executed by the target completion date, including all correspondence and quality control approvals with vendors/partners through the development process.
Product Management/Calendar:
• Ensure that all key dates are hit, ultimately ensuring that all samples are delivered complete, accurate, and on time at every development stage in each season.
• Review key dates within the Development Calendar with Melin Teams and Factory
• Development on a regular basis (Key deadline dates, expectations and deliverables) Serve as the primary liaison to the production team.
• Responsible for weekly reporting to management of any current or future issues and problems which may affect Melin’s ability to stay on calendar, hit the target minimum margin or deliver a superior product experience.
Material & Fit:
• Work with vendors/suppliers/partners to identify, develop and source new materials as requested by your designs.
• Establish and maintain Melin’s material library. This includes maintaining an accurate database of all quantities of materials owned by Melin, as well as resources for potential materials to be used in future design concepts all catalogued neatly and organized showing price per unit of measure and supplier contact information. This will be updated weekly and used in initial line plan and seasonal and special project design.

Market Knowledge:
• Have an in-depth knowledge of the market and Melin’s market position. This includes having a strong grasp on past/current/future market trends within Melin’s verticals of Premium Fashion, Technical Performance, Athleisure, Outdoor/Adventure lifestyle and Action Sports.
• Provide monthly and quarterly reporting advising on market trends, opportunities, future creative ideas/direction and new innovation or threats from competition.
