About the job
The Associate Buyer is responsible for negotiating deals with suppliers, as well as identifying cost-reduction opportunities, communicating them to management, and working with suppliers to realize those savings.
Essential Job Functions
• Play a key role in seasonal, annual and rotational buys of a limited number of merchandise categories or vendors, including company-branded products.
• Evaluate stock levels and place new orders as needed. Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed.
• Develop and maintain good vendor relations.
• Coordinate with Buying Manager and others to manage inventory on hand, min/max levels, inventory budgets, sales forecasts and in-store sales/discounts.
• Work with relevant team members to review product, category, vendor performance indicators to track progress, take any corrective actions and make future decisions.
• Maintain inventory integrity via various inputs such as creating purchase orders, pricing, confirmation, transfers, distribution data and annual physical inventory.
• Coordinate with visual merchandising team and store managers to ensure proper product training, selection and offering.
• Attend vendor meetings, trade shows, and conferences to learn about new products and industry trends
• Support other Aspen Skiing Company departments with the procurement, receipt and distribution of any departmental product needs
• Participate in frequent local day travel and occasional overnight travel to vendors/factories
• Other duties as assigned
