Full Time Comprehensive Benefits Email Me Similar Jobs Email Me This Job Skullcandy is seeking an experienced and innovative Director, Industrial Design to join our fast-paced Product Development team. In this role, you will lead teams that provide industrial design expertise to Skullcandy projects. This individual will manage the industrial design team, and work with cross-functional teams to contribute to the conceptualization, design, and specification of innovative Skullcandy products. They will ensure the proper direction and execution of industrial design processes for Skullcandy Inc. at the highest levels. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: ! As Director, lead the industrial design team and be responsible for the conception, creation, and execution of all ID projects (headphones, earphones, accessories, miscellaneous configurations) for the Skullcandy brand ! Continuously elevate design as a leadership discipline, working to advance the design capability of the team to include advanced cross-functional techniques incorporating human centered design principles. ! Develop and establish Skullcandy aesthetic and design language consistent with the brand foundation and strategy and partnership with brand and product marketing. ! Develop and execute multiyear design roadmaps including color, materials, finishes. ! Provide expert leadership on creative, conceptualization, and quality assurance processes during design phases ! Responsible for ensuring clear communication, collaboration, and project alignment with the PD team and Chief Product Officer from design to production. ! Develop and implement industrial design methodologies that maximize efficiency and minimize use of Skullcandy resources ! Maintains communication across multiple outlets regarding design updates, deadlines, and project outlook; strong verbal and written communication skills are an absolute must in this role ! Develop products that increase brand loyalty, aligned with Skullcandy brand and design philosophies ! As department head, ensure the incorporation of global trends, technology, and fashion into design ! Review and approve all product specifications, final designs and final samples ! Responsible for leading product colorway (SKU) design and coordinating with the global creative team on packaging graphics that are consistent and in-line with brand strategy ! Manage team bandwidth to allow for a high sense of urgency around high priority initiatives ! Effectively manage ID budget and allocate appropriate resources for existing designs and new projects ! Ensure that all new industrial design meets the costing target for each project; ensure materialization and construction hit target margins ! Work with other teams to review research to identify areas of improvement and boost customer satisfaction following product and design changes ! Mentor and motivate industrial designers to accomplish company and personal goals under strict deadlines ! Assure continual advanced level capabilities across all team skillsets ! Active participation in brainstorming sessions and design meetings; oversight to prevent design errors and suggest changes to ID process improvements ! Active role in the selection and presentation of designs to executive team members ! Communicate regularly with manufacturing team in China to support execution of projects ! International travel to manufacturing sites may be requiredREQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: ! Bachelors in Industrial Design or equivalent experience, Master's degree preferred ! 6+ years' professional experience as an industrial/product designer ! 2+ years' experience leading teams, with managerial experience ! Experience in audio Consumer Electronics a huge plus ! Experience with consumer electronics and injection molding strongly preferred ! Experience leading teams completing cutting edge design work while meeting aggressive deadlines and project schedules ! Proven track record of leading projects with overseas manufacturing teams, preferably China ! Proven ability to collaborate with engineers, product development teams, project managers, contractors, and vendors !
