Under Armour is hiring a Senior Materials Development Lead to drive Material Innovation within the UA apparel line. This is a highly interactive and technical development position that requires comprehensive materials expertise. Qualified candidate must possess the ability to work with and interpret a diverse supply chain and internal customer network to develop dynamic, high quality materials for an international and renown Tech Company. Responsibilities include driving technology transfer to in-line, developing alongside best-in-class material supply partners, and spearheading communication channels between UA and our supply partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Drive material innovation, evolve material processes, and influence new end-use applications for all product categories
Lead in-season material development while focusing on long-lead and highly-engineered, material innovation pipeline
Collaborate with other internal Innovation partners on long-lead, high-profile projects
Manage, track, and prioritize all material projects for visibility to Chief Innovation Officer
Work cross-functionally with Product, Design, Merchandising, Color Team, and Strategic Sourcing teams to lead-in and determine each category’s material direction supported by their business needs
Consider UA’s aesthetic direction and performance requirements for the focused performer
Understand how fibers, yarns, knit, and woven constructions, as well as dyeing and finishing affect a material’s aesthetic and performance attributes
Communicate, visit, and collaborate with global Tier I, II, and III suppliers to aid in material development
Partner with UA’s International Materials Team to drive technical materials development through commercialization
Develop materials for specified end uses to ensure quality assurance and commercial viability
Travel domestically and internationally as needed

Extensive knowledge and proven experience working in technical material development and the following principles: Strong textile apparel materials science experience with familiarity and understanding of all phases of product ideation to commercialization
Natural and synthetic fiber and yarn performance attributes and manufacturing techniques
Advanced technical understanding of apparel material construction and properties in knitting, weaving, and non-woven constructions
Thorough understanding of apparel material dyeing and finishing processes
Comprehensive knowledge of value-added chemistries (performance enhancement)
Applicable expertise related to all mechanical finishes applied to materials for enhanced performance
End-use, product specific materials engineering
Thorough understanding of ASTM, AATCC, ISO, and JIS apparel test standards
Strong understanding of the materials industry and vendors
Excellent conceptual, technical, and strategic understandi
