Your opportunity at Arc’teryx:As the Director, Materials for Advanced Concepts, you lead a highly technical interdisciplinary group of forward-thinking materials researchers, developers and technical experts to establish strategies, direction and deliver tangible solutions for the mountain athlete everywhere. As a leader, you set the standard for materials innovation within the Advanced Concepts team and drive material futures cross-functionally at an enterprise level. You are a business leader with a passion for delivering industry-shaping solutions to establish and maintain Arc’teryx’ position as a disruptive, bold and relevant design brand. This role is primarily based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work.  Meet your future team:The Advanced Concepts team drives breakthrough innovation in snow, trail and climb for the mountain athlete everywhere. Our unique methodology, mindset of sustainability and fanatic passion for product are at the heart of what we do.If you were the Director, Materials – Advanced Concepts now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:! Driving and leading the Advanced Concepts materials’ vision, strategy, time horizon and point-of-view, across the innovation portfolio and beyond ! Leveraging your deep expertise, extensive network and personal ingenuity to develop new and innovative solutions for the mountain athlete everywhere ! Managing a portfolio of complexes; short, mid and long-term projects across categories and clearly communicating updates to key stakeholders.! Ensuring your team can executive effectively by clearly defining and aligning on the right scope, briefs, budget and deliverables, and mobilizing the right resources to achieve the required level of quality! Collaborating with Raw Materials and Supply Chain leadership to drive and align innovation solution and ensure effective commercialization and adoption of advanced concepts deliverables  ! Building and maintaining strong relationships with current and future external partners across academy, startups, suppliers and parallel industries ! Stay current with new innovations, technologies, and processes in fiber, yarn, finish, print, fabric and trims by working closely with strategically important supply chain partners (fiber, yarn suppliers, chemical producers, fabric mills and trim patterns)! Building, coaching, and guiding your diverse team of experts; inspiring them to deliver advanced Research & Development (R&D) solutions across all product areas ! Establishing and maintaining a robust Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio, proprietary solutions and exclusivity on materials projects in partnership with the Legal team ! Partnering with the Innovation Management team on research and engineering specific resourcing opportunities, including funding, academic and internship programs (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS, and so forth)! Driving key initiatives to support the future of Arc’teryx with a focus on product circularity! Ensuring you and your team maintain current industry technology, product innovation, research literature and equipment knowledge through education and hands-on experienceAre you our next Director, Materials – Advanced Concepts?! You have a degree in textile science, engineering or design, industrial design/engineering or materials science ! You have 10+ years of technical apparel and/or equipment experience in product innovation and materials R&D ! You have 7+ years proven management experience leading a team and business strategies related to advanced materials R&D  ! You have experience traveling and working directly with mills, materials fabricators, technology providers and factories in global locations domestically and overseas! You are experienced in identifying, creating and protecting a brand IP portfolio with internal and external legal teams! You have exceptional communication skills, including a proven ability to communicate findings to both scientists and nonscientists with strong presentation skills! You have a strong ability to build a mindset and culture of innovation within your team and beyond ! You have experience coaching and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team of innovators ! You have a deep understanding technical apparel and/or performance hardgoods design and/or production ! You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right! You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity! You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration! You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement!
