About the job

Job purpose: As the Design for Manufacturing Lead, you drive the understanding and employment of the guiding principles of design for manufacturing (DFM) and act as the bridge between design and manufacturing to achieve the perfect balance between product quality, performance and competitive manufacturing costs. Key responsibilities and accountabilities: • You collaborate and develop close working relationships with Design, R&D, Product Development, Quality and Manufacturing to drive design for manufacturing principles early in our product creation process • You identify opportunities in our product collection to establish consistent components and construction methods that are in alignment with manufacturer capabilities and cost expectations • You drive opportunities to improve quality and manufacturing efficiency by connecting available technology, equipment and workforce skill with design intent and product integrity • You close the loop of manufacturability, quality, repairability, serviceability by ensuring our product creation teams understand the problems and issues with current and past products • You work with the Quality Assurance and Development teams to establish and communicate product construction standards and concurrently develop new processes as part of new design development • You drive DFM culture and strengthen product creation team expertise through leadership and development of technical training platforms • You collaborate with internal and external equipment and tooling experts to develop tools and processes to optimize manufacturing and support the transfer of this knowledge to partner facilities • You establish strong relationships within the industry and ensure product creation and manufacturing teams stay abreast of current technology and equipment developments • You support our Commercialization and Manufacturing teams’ acquisition of new skills through training and documentation – i.e. equipment programming, template making, automation. • You support your analysis and solutions with data and create clear project plans to implement • You are responsible to compile project scope, activities, and expenditures, of projects deemed eligible for submission to funding programs (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS, and so forth) Additional experience, education and/or skills:• You have a Bachelor’s degree in Apparel/Textile Design, Technology, Merchandising, Engineering, or related field • You have 5+ years’ experience in design, development, or patternmaking • You have 5+ years’ experience in industrial engineering or soft goods quality • You are invigorated by spending time on a factory floor • You have a knowledge of apparel construction, material construction and properties, patternmaking, apparel engineering and factory equipment capabilities • You are an experienced leader who is passionate about building, coaching, and influencing cross functional teams • You love bring people together to solve problems, understand design intent and bring ideas together • You have an extreme attention to detail • You have the ability to manage multiple priorities • You have an extensive knowledge of raw materials and technical construction • You have strong verbal and written communication skills • You have strong interpersonal skills • You set a clear vision, align cross functional teams around common objectives, and foster commitment to these objectives • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it *Open to International applicants Apply for this job
