DescriptionBecome a Part of the NIKE, Inc. Team!NIKE, Inc. does more than outfit the world’s best athletes. The company looks for people who can grow, think, dream and create. Its culture thrives by embracing diversity and rewarding imagination. The brand seeks achievers, leaders and visionaries. At Nike, it’s about each person bringing skills and passion to a challenging and constantly evolving game. The Global Express Lane program is chartered with revolutionizing Nike’s world-class supply chain. We are an incubator for the business and value chain models needed to make the world’s largest sports brand run faster, smarter and more responsive to consumer demand. We innovate and prototype the modern technology solutions required to change the way we do business in the 21st century and fully leverage the potential of predictive forecasting models, sensor-connected product, and real-time IoT feeds directly from the factory. We exist to optimize Nike. The Express Lane program is looking for a top flight architect to work with internal design functions, developers, and enterprise architecture to fully understand the development ask for the technical prototypes we build. This is role is primarily responsible for holistically understanding the needs of all stakeholders – business outcomes, development timelines, interoperability with external technical teams, transition management across business resources asked to adopt a new solution – and chart the most effective course. You will work closely with the business and technical directors of the program to advise and compose the system landscape, as well as own responsibility for system diagrams and other associated architectural documentation. If you’re the one, here’s what you’d be responsible for:You will pragmatically balance the disparate needs of multiple groups, understand the TCO of any promoted solution, and make the best available technical recommendation for products or tools to use, custom-developed components, etc, with the aim of providing the best available solution architecture to create a given business outcome. The focus of this program is on speed-to-market and prototyping, but all designs should be made with a long-term goal of scaling in mind, because prototyping within the supply chain means influencing real world make and move operations. A background in Nike’s value chain is very helpful, but we are prototyping new systems and processes, and thinking outside of what currently exists is also valuable; the best candidate will have a strong sense of the organization’s tolerance for change and be able to recommend solutions that have a viable, sustainable future if handed off to other teams long-term.Express Lane is a broadly cross-functional program, both in terms of the interaction and communication across the enterprise, as well as our internal organization – business and technology are co-located and help define and refine the program scope together every day. As a result, written and verbal communication skills are an even higher priority than normal for Express Lane resources. We’re looking for people who are smart, adaptable, and capable of interpreting and seeing a rough idea through to execution and further, into sustainability.QualificationsA passion for technology and solving interesting challenges.
Proven problem solver and pragmatic thinker.
5+ years as a solution architect or lead architect, with experience designing for multiple stakeholder groups.
5+ years combined hands-on operations experience with public cloud, distributed computing, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), and custom developed solutions.
5+ years of hands-on development experience with Python or Java (preferred); experience in microservice-oriented, domain-driven design is a bonus.
Strong familiarity with the range of cloud services available through major cloud platform providers (AWS, Azure, etc), and a solid understanding of the tradeoffs between fully custom development, leveraging lower level cloud services with custom integration, and pure COTS deployment, with a bias toward speed-to-market.
Some background with applied statistics / machine learning-based models is a plus, particularly in terms of service-to-service integration of model input.
Have the ability to translate business requirements to end-to-end solutions.
