DescriptionAs our Footwear Materials Summer Intern, you will join the Nike Explore Team (NXT) Footwear Materials team focused on supporting innovative material solutions for targeted initiatives within NXT. You will be asked to leverage a broad knowledge of polymer properties to primarily support strategic development programs across the Basketball, Running and Global Football categories. You will be asked to work with a variety of polymers, including thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, etc. within a wide range of material processing areas, including injection molding, extrusion, foaming, and compounding. Key to the role is the desire to leverage polymer science with hands-on execution of strategic initiatives.You will be asked to work cooperatively on initiatives within the team and be exposed to the cross-functional Nike matrix (Product Development, Business Development, Legal, Procurement, Chemical Engineering, Design, Sports Research Lab, categories, etc…) You will be asked to collaboratively develop testing plans for novel footwear materials. In addition, responsibilities will require you to execute the required sample making and testing to determine proof-of-concept feasibility. You will work with the Materials & Mechanical Lab to assist in generating, analyzing, and interpreting results of testing of materials to ensure that materials meet all required standards. QualificationsWorking towards a Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Experience with material characterization and analytical techniques (mechanical and thermal property testing.)
Comprehensive understanding of polymeric materials, their processing, and their relation to part design and performance.
Familiarity with state-of-the-art processing techniques used for polymeric materials, including injection molding, extrusion, foaming, compression molding, and 3D printing.
Ability to clearly articulate project goals and objectives to relevant audiences.
Strong interpersonal effectiveness, collaboration and data-based decision-making track record (i.e. statistical methods).
Ability to work with diverse teams and skillsets to support strategic initiatives. 
Creativity to solve applied product and manufacturing problems.
