Nike's Tax Team is an innovative and strategic expert function whose mission is to create, optimize, and protect tax value in support of Nike's finance, business, and shareholder objectives. We are looking for leaders, influencers, collaborators, and experts who can champion change as we evolve and help build our blueprint for the future.As Nike’s Manager of Indirect Taxes, you will be responsible for all tax compliance matters related to domestic sales/use, B&O, gross receipts, real and personal property, and business licenses. The successful candidate will have extensive project management experience working across functions to influence business operations, processes, and systems. You will play a significant role in applying and validating tax rates, providing tax information, and supporting team members with technology and process capabilities to create value added solutions for the Global Tax Function.Key Responsibilities:Enforce and help to develop domestic indirect tax policies and procedures in the United States; coordinate roles and responsibilities with global indirect tax leaders and other key stakeholders and process owners.
Implement indirect tax specifications and interfaces with company ERP systems; responsible for maintaining, documenting, and supporting indirect tax systems required to ensure proper compliance with jurisdictional tax laws, including use of OneSource Indirect Tax Engine, SAP, Alteryx, Business Intelligence, and other automation tools.
Create value for Nike by engaging with business operations personnel to review business transactions with a view towards minimization of the amount of indirect taxes that are applicable or not fully recoverable.
Manage opportunities for refunds of prior taxes and work to minimize future overpayments.
Provide support for documenting and maintaining Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and Nike policies and procedures for indirect tax processes.
Manage the compliance for domestic indirect taxes, including out-source compliance providers, preparation of tax returns, determination of nexus, and support jurisdictional audits, protests, and risk/reserve analysis for financial statement purposes.
Perform reconciliation of general ledger accounts and journal entries related to indirect taxes in accordance with Nike policies.
Assist with due diligence, risk assessment, and integration activities for merger and acquisition transactions for Nike.
Manage indirect tax staff, external consultants, and communication within the Nike matrix; collaborate within and across the Nike Tax and Finance functions.
Manage indirect tax initiatives in support of Consumer Direct Offenses
QualificationsCPA certification preferred; Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in both industry and tax consultancy positions working in indirect tax management, implementing and using automated indirect tax systems and practices.
Substantive experience in wholesale, retail, and internet sales operational environment.
Excellent skills in leading a domestic indirect tax compliance team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse groups.
Dedicated to deployment of process improvement to mitigate risk and add value.
Advanced computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
Proven experience with tax engine software implementation and support; Thomson Reuters, Vertex, and ERP systems.
Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with ability to engage in, prioritize, and perform multiple ongoing tasks.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated understanding of complex tax concepts; must be flexible, adaptable, and resourceful.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, goal oriented environment.
Ability to pass a 7-year background check.
