Job Title: Designer/Developer for Girls Sportswear
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position requires a creative individual with a strong background in and knowledge of the entire design and development process from design concept through production as well as a passion and enthusiasm for Apparel. Ideal candidate has a strong eye for brand-right silhouettes, fabrics, and color. This individual will be responsible for hands-on designing and merchandising of Girls and Kids product categories. This position will work closely with the Design Director on seasonal themes and color stories that are rooted by womens themes, and occasional take down styling. This position will also work directly with Merchandising Director on status updates and sourcing.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 3-5 years in an Apparel Design role (kids/womens preferred)
Design degree preferred
Expertise in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
Experience with yardage patterns and print processes (repeats, engineers, etc.)
Strong knowledge of fabric weaves, contents/weights, finishing techniques
Strong knowledge of apparel construction, fits, costing
In-depth understanding of O’Neill customer and O’Neill design sensibility
Knowledge of PLM and Full Circle is desired
Positive attitude, attention to detail, prioritization skills, and articulate communication skills and ability to facilitate meeting as necessary

Job Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Concept initial mood, print and color direction with Design Director
Researching trend direction and market analysis for appropriate categories that reflect the O’Neill brand direction.
Illustrate, color, fill and spec original garments within across multiple categories.
Creation and maintenance of highly organized and fully detailed tech packs
Work directly with overseas suppliers to ensure they understand the design requirements.
Creation and maintenance of highly organized and fully detailed tech packs
Conceptualization and composition of original yardage artwork/patterns, trimmings, embellishments, etc. *as needed
Adherence to various deadlines across multiple seasons in differing stages of development
Negotiate with factory to achieve costs in order to meet target wholesale and gross margin targets. Suggest alternatives when relevant.
Comment on lab dips, strike offs, protos, etc., in a timely manner
Conduct fit sessions and compile
Work closely with technical team to maintain brand fit standards /prepare visual comments for factory.
Responsible for PLM management including, all sample comments and approvals.
Manage time and action calendar for assigned categories to meet all deadlines.
Domestic and International travel may be required
