The Dorel Sports Supply Chain team is the engine that sources products around the world. Our supply chain experts ensure that every year millions of bikes, helmets, toys, and parts and accessories arrive from the right place, at the right time. To ensure this complex job goes off without a hitch, our team works with a network of more than 40 suppliers, mainly in Asia regions, 4 fulfillment centers, and various partners in the chain to make our products available to our customers.
Dorel Sports is seeking a top-tier candidate for aDirector of Global Logistics position. The role offers deep global exposure in international Operations and supply chain. Reporting directly to the CFO, the candidate will manage global transportation partnerships and initiatives for ocean and air modes within Dorel Sports international supply chain. Responsibilities include developing global logistic strategies for Dorel Sports, ensuring performance of ocean and air freight carries partnerships, leading the international freight procurement process to negotiate international freight rates, and containers availability to the whole business across the globe. Furthermore, this position will balance and manage the direct import program to the domestic importation program.
This position will work closely with in-house Trade Compliance, Sourcing, and Transportation teams. We are looking for a leader with deep domain expertise in global logistics, global fulfillment and reverse logistics operations, and talent development. You will own strategic thinking, process design, and operational execution to deliver best-in-class global logistics and operations. To be successful in this role, you must possess a positive, engaging and goal-oriented management style and must be comfortable working with cross-functional teams, vendors, third-party logistics partners and customers.
Below you find a few (but not all) of the responsibilities for the role: Prepare the long term international logistic strategies, operational leadership and innovation required to ensure continuous, profitable growth and the achievement of short and long-range goals, including to work in partnership with Trade Compliance and Sourcing to develop logistics and customs compliance strategies and processes as well as for entering new markets on a global basis
Actively participate in the preparation of annual business plan and strategic process review, with tactical operating plans, and aggressive but actionable metrics
The ability to effectively balance the desire/need for broad change with an understanding of how much change the organization is capable of handling, to create realistic goals and implementation plans that are achievable and successful
Introduce and promote best practices related to global logistics and transportation, including automations and process improvements
Work with internal stakeholders to strategically optimize routing, maximize performance, and minimize cost
Serve as the primary contact for international logistics related questions, training, developing policy and procedure interpretation, and alignment by all departments, as well, resolving inquiries from internal customers and external vendors regarding shipment issues, carrier services, and transportation strategy
Develop a robust Global Logistics function and team, that leverages leadership to develop new leaders, retain talents, and external partners alignments and communication; motivate and lead world-class teams across each function and instill a high-performance work culture that includes personal & professional development, living the Dorel Sports Behaviors, and the application of best-in-class operational processes focused on achieving or exceeding key metrics
Develop strong international carrier relationships to ensure high levels of service and communication
Education & Experience Requirements 10+ years of experience in a leadership role in a corporate Logistics Operations organization, proven experience in building effective team and developing talent, the ability to attract and recruit top talent, motivate the team, delegate effectively, celebrate diversity within the team, and manage performance; widely viewed as a strong developer of others
A bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field is highly preferred
A leader who is viewed by others as having a high degree of integrity and forethought in his/her approach to making decisions; the ability to act in a transparent and consistent manner while always taking into account what is best for the organization
An ability to inspire trust and followership in others through compelling influence, powerful charisma, passion in his/her beliefs, and active drive
Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainly; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations
High knowledge of international supply chain processes, carriers, third party logistics companies, forwarders, couriers, and transportation performance measures
Results-oriented, metrics-driven leader with expertise in logistics, warehousing, supplier collaboration, development and compliance
Strong negotiation, cost management and vendor management skills. Must possess good interpersonal/relationship skills, including the ability to persuade, motivate and influence others
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present business, financial and operational analysis and results, and excellent interpersonal skills and maintain both a proactive and positive attitude
Highly astute knowledge base of transportation rules/regulations, carrier operating systems and procedures;demonstrated knowledge of carrier business models and cost structures; experience with all modes of transportation air, ocean, and land preferable
