Internship Duration: This is a minimum 4 month internship.
Position Summary: The Engineering Intern will support the Research and Testing teams. The role will involve conducting destructive and non-destructive testing, data acquisition, and other research based tests. Additional duties will include maintenance and calibration procedures for test equipment.
Responsibilities
Conduct destructive physical testing using hydraulic and pneumatic test machines to validate strength and durability of various designs
Conduct non-destructive testing to compare performance metrics of various designs.
Apply strain gauges and attach sensors to bicycle parts
Collect field histories using data acquisition systems
Calibrate test equipment, load cells, and torque sensors
Summarize and analyze data to provide results and conclusions to design studies
Assist R&D Test Engineer with machine and fixture design, maintenance, and repair
Essential Qualifications
Enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering or similar degree program with a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals
Knowledge of materials science
Intimate knowledge of bicycle products and their assembly
Experience building road and mountain bikes
Experience with scientific method, design of experiments, and data acquisition
Experience with simple electronics
Fluency in 2D and 3D design software
High level of self-motivation
Excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities
Beneficial Qualifications
Proficient with Pro E/Creo
Passion for cycling
Metal working or fabrication skills
Bicycle shop mechanic experience
Physical Demands
Ability to lift 50 pounds and use power tools and heavy equipment.
