Job Description
Job Title: Design Engineer, Helmets
Position Summary:
Responsible for interpreting design intent on the path to development of mechanical engineering, manufacturing and tooling solutions. Works closely with industrial design and manufacturing partners to develop innovative solutions. Creation of refined 3D models and engineering mechanical solutions on complex organic surfaces.
Responsibilities:
Develop elegant and robust mechanical solutions in 3D solids and/or finished surface models from digital scan data, physical samples and technical drawing packages.
Create engineered solutions in CAD platforms for moving & fixed assemblies for product concepts with tight spatial constraints, mechanisms, and complex organic surfacing.
Provide support for the technical development of new products including 3D design, mechanical engineering, tooling and fixture design, bills of materials and technical drawings, production tooling, qualification testing, and manufacturing introduction.
Fully accountable for multiple project schedule coordination and tracking within a fast-paced product development/manufacturing implementation environment.
Work closely with in-house teams and external partners to ensure that all performance and quality attributes of each product are satisfied.
Keep up-to-date on international safety standards and requirements
Ability to solve complex problems though developing and evaluating options and implementing solutions.
Fully accountable for multiple project schedule coordination and tracking within a fast-paced product/development/manufacturing implementation environment.
Strong understanding of and experience with the manufacturing processes including raw materials, production processes, injection molding, rapid prototyping and quality control procedures.
Work with suppliers to optimize production techniques, tooling and part cost, pre-production testing and troubleshooting
Ability to work in a team environment required.
Follow internal controls and company policies as set by Dorel Sports & Cycling Sports Group, as well as, the job function.
Contributes to the success of Dorel Sports and Cycling Sports Group by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in industrial/commercial design or engineering related field required.
Minimum 5 years experience in related field
Proficiency with 3D CAD software & advanced surface modeling. Solidworks, AutoCAD Fusion 360 strongly preferred, PTC Creo is advantageous Proficiency with 2D and 3D rendering software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Keyshot.
Flexible to work in a fast-paced, open team environment, while working on multiple projects in varying levels of development and quickly adjust to market opportunity
Familiarity with PC computer systems required
Mechanical finite element analysis set up and analyzing experience
Deep understanding of latest manufacturing techniques and materials
Knowledge of MS Office applications required.
Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills required.

Proficiency in Workfront, Viewforia software programs
Fundamental understanding of electronics, PCB production and battery technology
Physical Demands:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time.
Traveling 15 - 25 % of the time domestic and international
