As Sun Bum is experiencing tremendous growth, the company is in need of a Marketing Director who will be a key member of the Marketing team, partnering with the Vice President of Marketing and Creative Director to lead the strategy, development and execution of disruptive marketing programs. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this person will develop and implement both long and short-term strategies and tactics that drive global awareness of and build credibility and buzz around the brand, as well as generate volume-building programs which support sales and profit goals. The Marketing Director will also help lead the day-to-day operations of the broader Marketing team, serving as a go-to resource for the broader Marketing team. In addition to managing a Sun Bum business pillar, the Marketing Director will also be responsible for overseeing and supporting our Global Brand Activations/Events group and the Concept Store at our Encinitas HQ.

⏵ Brand Planning: Develop and execute annual and long-range strategic plans including merchandising, paid media and advertising, community/influencer engagement, consumer promotion, market research and product development. Includes providing competitive analysis, marketing mix analysis, creative direction through brief writing and managing project timelines.

⏵ Marketing Leadership: Help lead and inspire a high-performing, disruptive and analytics-minded marketing organization that possesses depth on both online and offline channels. Provide strong mentorship and support to director reports and peers within the company and be a leading brand/company voice and partner to our external agency partners.

⏵ Customer/Shopper Marketing: Plan and execute customer marketing programming for key retailers, including promotions and couponing, digital and in-store campaigns and sampling.

⏵ Brand Activations/Events Marketing: Oversee group responsible for bringing disruptive, best-in-class brand experiences to life for our community. Ensure team successfully coordinates and executes consumer and industry events, including trade shows, in-store, PR and grassroots events.

⏵ Innovation: Partner with Product Development team to lead the Innovation process, including pipeline ideation, validation and execution of projects.

⏵ Sales Support: Collaborate with the sales force to ensure execution of key programs and consistency with brand strategic guidelines. Partner on all retail support needs, including annual line reviews, planogram planning and traffic driving tactics throughout the year.

⏵ Creative, Design and Packaging: Assist Creative Director and design team with developing effective campaigns that drive brand awareness and generate buzz for the brand. Lead process for packaging updates, including nutrition labeling regulatory compliance.

⏵ Consumer Insights: Gather consumer insights through quantitative and qualitative data sources, using both formal and informal, scrappy approaches. Translate data into actionable insights that optimize marketing.

⏵ Analytics: Actively gather, analyze and present business performance assessments. Analyze brand volume distribution/pricing trends on a local market and national level.

⏵ Budget Owner: Track monthly/quarterly brand budget, regularly communicating and reconciling spend with VP of Marketing and Finance.

⏵ Brand Advocate: Act as a champion for the brand, regularly presenting brand positioning, programming and performance success stories across internal and external audiences.

• Minimum 7 years of experience, including strong consumer packaged goods marketing. Some experience with high growth, disruptive lifestyle brand preferred.
• Strong consumer-led, brand-building expertise.

• Excellent analytical acumen and knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
