JOB DESCRIPTION The role of data domain steward is to champion and facilitate the appropriate use of the data that fall within their data domain. They operationalize data strategy within domain, manage new data initiatives, ensure implementation of data standards, prioritize critical data elements, define business rules for data quality and design Data Quality issue remediation plans. They collaborate with other data stewards and data owners to define data elements and develop related meta-data. They develop and promote data standards, in collaboration with Data Quality leads for data entry and usage/reporting of these data. They develop procedures for the creation, collection and consumption of the data they steward. Key Results: • Define data elements, metadata, data lineage and controls for the data domain • Work with Data Quality leads & other system owners to implement data standards • Resolve data related issues and continue to be the data champion for enterprise data • Establish processes to track, prioritize, and remediate data issues (both within and across data domains) Additional Information and Key Metrics: • Manage one or more data domains as part of the Enterprise Cloud Data Platform Key Responsibilities: • Define and prioritize critical data elements and ensure completeness, accuracy and integrity of data within their respective data domain(s)* • Set data standards and clearly define the range of acceptable values and attributes for data* • Collaborate with other data stewards & data enablement team to resolve issues related to standards and definitions for those data elements that cross domains* • Recommend policies to data owners* • Define a single set of procedures for requesting access to sensitive elements of enterprise data and document these data access request procedures* • Develop and maintain a data inventory and contribute to the centrally maintained data inventory(catalog)* • Serve on the appropriate data governance council* • Define security classifications for data within their domains in accordance to LS&Co’s data classification policy • Implement data retention requirements consistent with legal or other compliance requirements Minimum Education Required: • Bachelor of Engineering/Science/Technology degree, preferably in Computer Science or other Engineering discipline (or equivalent) • MBA is a plus Years and Type of Experience Required: • At least 7 to 10 years of Business/IT experience primarily working in generation, distribution and consumption of data and related business processes • 4+ years’ experience with data analysis, modeling, design or development, with experience in retail and in complex and global business and technology environments • 3+ years’ business analysis and requirements gathering experience • Understanding of the end-to-end data life cycle requirements of key business processes in one of more business areas of retail organization • Exposure to data quality, records management, security and privacy concepts, best practices and tools/technologies is advantageous • Highly proficient in MS Excel in data analysis, creating ad hoc reports, KPI metrics, dashboards etc. • Prior working experience of Enterprise Information Management projects including MDM, business analytics etc. • Comfortable in defining, calculating and improving upon KPI definitions and remain a custodian of data dictionary in the respective data domains • Knowledge of Regulatory compliance regarding consumer data, retail systems data etc. is a plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: • Strong ability to develop and maintain long-term positive working relationships with peers, subordinates and senior management across geographic and cultural boundaries • Facilitation and conflict resolution skills, to assist in resolving the different points of view and requirements that invariably collide during cross-team and cross-organization efforts. • Ability to influence peers and subordinates to modify behaviors and provide support for the adoption of data governance policies. • Ability to interact with IT resources when technology roles and capabilities are required to facilitate any and all aspects of the data steward role. • Creative problem-solving aptitude. Since data governance issues can be complex and can result from non-obvious causes, data stewards must be able to think laterally to generate solutions which have the desired impact. • Comfortable working at low levels of detail, examining data and trends in values to understand variations and seek the root causes, to legitimize the trend or classify it as a data governance issue. Complexity and Accountability: • This is an individual contributor role Key partners & Interaction: • Internal: Will interact with data domain owners and fellow data stewards in defining the data elements, KPI’s and data standardization rules, resolving cross-domain issues; • External (if applicable): Will interact with any external parties based on the external data we bring in to LSC in supporting our analytics capabilities; will understand the nature of the data elements from the 3rd party sources and build appropriate controls and processes to ensure that the DQ does not suffer for the outside data Scope: This role has a global responsibility and owns developing data/metadata processes and rules for all regions/markets/systems, for selected data domains of Enterprise Cloud Data Platform LOCATION1155 Battery St. San Francisco, CA, 94111FULL TIME/PART TIMEFull time
