JOB DESCRIPTION Levi Strauss Europe (LSE) is currently looking for a Manager, Cross-Functional Data Scientist II, based in our European Headquarters in Diegem, Belgium. In this role, you will be part of the high impact European Strategy Team in Brussels.The team works with the President of Europe and European Leadership Team to 1) define business strategy, 2) drive projects to implement the strategy and 3) inform other business decisions. Levi Strauss Europe is growing rapidly and transforming for the future with an immediate focus on advanced analytics and data science. This role is critical to and poised at the center of those changes and will be part of our growing European and global community of data scientists. Bringing practical experience as an on-the-ground data scientist, you have a track record of building models to help make or automate data-driven decisions. You possess the expertise, maturity and interpersonal skills to partner with business stakeholders for model and tool development and adaption. You are an innovator and advocate for AI and new ways of working within LSE. Responsibilities: • Scope, conduct and deliver data science projects to drive adaption of advanced analytics across functions in LSE, potentially including but not limited to consumer insights, retail and marketing• Work with cross-functional teams to define problem statements and hypotheses • Identify relevant internal and external data sources, collect, clean, and transform data to use in analyses • Explore data to increase understanding of customer behaviors, attitudes, and preferences • Build and maintain state-of-the-art statistical procedures, algorithms, and models in Python to solve a range of problems in diverse domains • Design and deploy algorithmic solutions to better meet the needs of customers • Conduct experiments to test the effectiveness of models and sequentially iterate upon and optimize deployed algorithms • Develop and own the LSE retail testing forum • Be a leading voice in applied analytics in Levi Strauss Europe• Strive for continual improvement in deployment of existing data sources, tools and processes to achieve actionable and relevant insights • Partner with Director of Strategy, VP of Technology and broader analytics community to drive analytics agenda in-region including but not limited to techniques and infrastructure • Identify and implement forward-thinking approaches that meet business needs • Advise on methodological decisions requiring analytical / advanced analytical expertise, to be taken by other parts of the business • Develop and own the regional cross-functional data science pipeline Requirements: • Education and experience• Master's/PhD Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistical Computing, or an equivalent discipline • 3-6+ years’ relevant experience in data science in a corporate, preferably international, environment • Data science skillset• 3-6+ years of hands-on experience analyzing and interpreting data, drawing conclusions, defining recommended actions, building predictive models, and visualizing results. • 3-6+ years of SQL development skills writing complex queries. • 3-6+ years of experience with Python, R, Java, C++, Julia, or another widely used open-source programming language. • 3-6+ years of experience deploying algorithms in a production environment. • 3-6+ years’ experience with big data processing tools such as MapReduce, PIG, and HIVE, with extensive experience working with Spark. • 3-6+ years of experience with data visualization tools (D3.js, R Shiny, Looker, Tableau or similar). • Optional/preferred: Experience working with AWS ecosystem and Linux/UNIX shell required. • Experience using data access tools and building dashboards using large datasets and multiple data sources. • Communication and collaboration • Fluency in English, any other European language is an asset • Excellent written and oral communication • Experience working collaboratively with a range of internal business partners and external suppliers • Ability to influence without direct authority • Embody personal credibility, professionalism and integrity through actions and manner • A company-first mindset What we offer: • An opportunity to build a career with a world-renowned, historic fashion brand that lives by its values and with a large public commitment to driving our capabilities in advanced analytics • A chance to drive real change in an organization undergoing significant growth and transformation • A diverse, international environment of smart, inspiring people • A fun, creative, modern casual dress culture The LS&Co.
