We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our European Legal Department (ELD), based in our European HQ in Diegem, Belgium. You will report to the Chief European Counsel, and together with other attorneys from the ELD, and provide legal support to one or more regional country clusters on a broad range of legal matters relevant for such country cluster(s). As Legal Counsel you also participate to global/regional legal projects and may manage specific subject-matter areas across Levi Strauss Europe (LSE) depending on your areas of expertise and interest. Responsibilities: The Legal Counsel is a generalist lawyer and operates across various jurisdictions to enable achievement of business goals while managing legal, compliance and reputational risks. Primary responsibilities at Cluster level include: • Cluster Leadership Team: collaborate with the Cluster Leadership Team and will be an essential advisor to its members on legal matters but also business strategies and plans as well as policy development and cross-functional projects. • Commercial: Work with business teams to enable profitable growth, including negotiating, drafting, or reviewing commercial agreements such as distribution agreements (franchise, selective distribution), ecommerce agreements, marketing and promotional agreements. Advising the business in connection with new initiatives, transactions and retail store operations. Evaluating the competition law aspects of business initiatives.. • Dispute Resolution: Partner with business teams, and internal and external counsel to manage disputes and litigation claims. • HR Legal: Collaborate with local HR team to support employment law matters, including, reviewing policies and forms, and managing employee disputes. • Compliance & Risk Management: in partnership with Ethics & Compliance and Data Privacy functions, proactively identify risks and implement programs to manage risk and safeguard company’s reputation in relevant cluster(s). Assist with internal compliance and government agencies investigations. Provide trainings to the business on a variety of topics, including competition law. • Brand Protection & Intellectual Property: in partnership with Global Intellectual Property Team, advise clients on trademark and other IP-related issues, such as parallel imports. Support Global Intellectual Property team in brand protection efforts and strategies for relevant cluster(s). • Vendor contracts: work with procurement team on a variety of services and supply agreements, including IT/SaaS, in furtherance of business objectives. Manage the Contract Lifecycle Management tool for LSE. • Global & Regional Projects: Support global or pan-regional projects. Requirements: • Law degree (LLB) from a recognized university and called to the Bar (in an LSE jurisdiction). • Minimum 7-8 years’ experience practicing law with leading law firm and in-house • Excellent English (written and oral).
