The successful Creative Services Manager will be working as part of a global Design and Merchandising team. The Creative Services Manager oversees and contributes to the development and execution of color, print, pattern and graphic artwork that informs, supports and aligns with the established seasonal design direction and product line objectives. He/she guides and manages a staff of in-house print designers, graphic artists, textile designers and colorists in the day-to-day job performance and also is an individual creative contributor. He/she vets and selects outside freelance designers, artists or service work studios, prepares creative project briefs and manages all communication to ensure deliverables are met. He/she works closely with the Design Director to establish standards and processes to produce consistent, high quality results and ensures that all project/department milestones and goals are met. He/she fosters a culture of collaboration, creativity, innovation and solution-minded thinking that enables prAna to consistently meet customers’ expectations and company goals.

Essential Job Functions:

• Leadership & Management responsibilities: 60-70%

• Individual Contributor responsibilities: 40-30%

1. Print, Pattern & Graphic Development

• Conduct seasonal and ongoing trend and market research and competitive benchmarking (in area of print, pattern & graphic development)
• Present trend research findings to Design Director and broader design team to help inform seasonal direction
• Conceptualize, create, render new artwork ideas
• With Design Director develop guardrails for prAna’s print, graphic and pattern aesthetic that aligns with product aesthetic, brand character and positioning
• Collaborate with Sourcing and Product Development Managers to understand print and graphic capabilities and limitations of entire vendor base
• Stay current with state-of-art print methods and techniques, explore, vet and pitch alternative methods which contribute to sustainability initiatives
• Determine best printing technique to achieve desired visual effects that meet quality and cost targets
• Create seasonal design briefs in conjunction with Design Director to guide in-house and freelance print and graphic artists
• Coordinate, schedule and facilitate all print, pattern and graphic review meetings in keeping with development calendar
• Establish and implement efficient art and strike off approval and record keeping process
• Conceptualize, create original textile designs, prints, graphics and embroidery patterns
• Interpret, manipulate, revise inspiration art to meet aesthetic design objectives
• Provide multiple print layouts, scale and colorway options for final assortment selection
• Manage and oversee yarn-dye layout and pitch process to ensure concepts meet needs
• Ensure Director and VP level approvals are obtained where required
• Advocate for any needed resources, tools and materials to enhance innovation
• Attend relevant print, art and textile tradeshows
• Travel to print vendors to research new print techniques and to ensure quality execution of ideas
• Proactively research and recruit freelance artists to develop a talented resource network
• Ensure all art and yarn dye approvals are made within calendar deadlines to ensure timely execution of sales samples and bulk production
• Support Design team in creation of visual tools for sales meetings, seasonal kick-offs, pre-lines or in-house dealer presentations
• Collaborate with Marketing team on development of any promotional items to ensure alignment with product aesthetic

2. Color Development

• Coordinate seasonal and ongoing trend research and competitive benchmarking (in area of color)
• Present color trend research to Design Director and broader design team to help inform seasonal direction
• Oversee preparation and ensure timely distribution of seasonal color story boards, digital palettes and color cards
• Ensure color standards are issued to vendors on time and that lab dip comments and approvals are completed on a timely basis
• Schedule and facilitate all color review meetings to meet calendar deadlines
• Oversee bulk fabric approval process, specific to color approvals.
• Ensure all color approvals are made within and meeting calendar deadlines to ensure timely execution of sales samples and bulk production

3. Leadership, Coaching, Mentoring (People)

• Manage and mentor team of in-house and freelance designers
• Manage ART Time and Action plan to ensure alignment with master Product Creation calendar and key milestone deliverables
• Prepare work summaries and performance metrics reports
• Help prioritize team workload in partnership with other functional area leads
• Prepare and conduct mid-year and yearly performance and pay reviews
• Provide coaching to enhance performance and guide development
• Assess and authorize vacation, time-off and SEVA days
• Verify, correct and approve bi-weekly time cards for hourly employee
• Conduct regular one-on-ones with teams to ensure consistent, quality work
• Help prioritize team workload in partnership with other functional area leads
