Your Job:

The Material Developer is an integral part of the seasonal material development process, utilizing product and process knowledge. You will work with a cross-functional product creation team (triad) from the collection of insights through commercialization to deliver products that exceed consumer expectations. Must have knowledge across different material and trim constructions and processes involved in development including engineering warps, wefts, and wovens. Knowledge in raw material properties, testing, and costing are also a must. Other critical responsibilities include understanding manufacturing capabilities, anticipating issues, problem solving, and timely resolution. You will be responsible for partnering with the Material Team to initiate ideas around material and trim development opportunities that improve product performance, product value, and communicate them across the product teams.

Your Responsibilities:
! Assist in managing workload according to the Material seasonal development calendar and contribute to process creation and execution
! Partner on material development from brief handoff to final production
! Have an awareness of emerging concepts and innovations and partner with the Material Team to interpret these into commercial opportunities, working with manufacturers on new techniques and technologies to ensure that products incorporate the functional and aesthetic needs of our brand
! Maintain a toolbox of items and keep up to date a reference library of approved textiles and trims; with marked approval dates and current technical spec/cost sheets
! Utilize technical material specification and identification skills to make informed decisions to deliver effective outcomes for distraction free experience for the consumer and favorable product margins
! Work with cross-functional partners on material construction, features, and benefits to understand the desired outcome of the seasonal product
! Work closely with the PLM, Design and Development Team (Triad) on the seasonal line to establish consistency about performance and functional material attributes
! Work with Asia materials testing team to ensure that all materials pass Brooks Sports commercialization process by the specified dates on the seasonal calendar
! Understand seasonal costing, partnering with mills to work strategically based on projected volumes to achieve the best cost
! Use working knowledge of industry testing standards to assist in development decisions that deliver effective outcomes in performance attributes to deliver a distraction-free consumer experience
! Collaborate with the Apparel Development Team to assist in the evaluation of prototypes in preparation for the fitting/review meetings
! Collaborate with the Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Analyst to ensure material development seasonal alignment and support long-term achievement of Brooks sustainability goals
! Demonstrate initiative through continuous improvement in products and processes
! As a key contact of Brooks Sports, Inc. support the relationship of the material and trim suppliers
! Drive supplier relationships to ensure all material construction, specs and quality testing are made and ensure adherence to the seasonal calendar
! Participate in International and domestic material development trips, twice per year, to work with manufacturers and suppliers on existing and current development projects

Qualifications:
! BS in Textile Design or related field; may be substituted with relevant experience
! 5+ years of experience in engineering, troubleshooting, and testing performance knits and wovens
! Deep understanding and proven success working textile testing methods, a range of material constructions, and material processes
! Proficient in PLM system to build, support and maintain digital material library
! Computer proficiency with office software; MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Key Note, and Illustrator
! Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a collaborative, cross-functional group to meet strategic objectives
! Effective project management skills and experience, including the ability to articulate goals and objectives, manage projects independently and the ability to network and utilize internal and external resources
! Keen attention to detail in planning, organizing and execution of tasks (self and through others), while still seeing the big picture and understanding how all the pieces fit together and affect one another
! Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written
! Advanced ability to communicate new ideas, concepts, and functional expertise within project teams and to external stakeholders
! Ability to anticipate how a decision made can affect our customers, our partners, our products, or other departments’ operations and/or morale; “connecting the dots”
! Curious and open minded; always open for a challenge, inventive, creative. With the ability to challenge the status quo – always looking at improving our products and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details
! Demonstrated ability to develop highly positive relationships with individuals and teams that are made up of diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds resulting in effective working relationships across the company
