The Designer II, Equipment is part of a team of professionals that share an appreciation and passion for outdoor adventure. The Team is driven by a desire to design and create the best, most innovative product in the world that addresses the needs of the consumer.

The Designer II, Equipment works closely with the Senior Category Manager and the Equipment Design and Development Team on all categories (Backpacks, Luggage, Tents, Sleeping Bags and Accessories). This position assists in initiating and interpreting new product concepts to meet the needs of our consumers. The Designer II, Equipment strives to create unique innovation that will keep our brands positioned as the technical leaders for outdoor activities and adventure travel. The incumbent manages designs projects from initial design direction to bulk production to ensure project goals are achieved and deadlines are reached. This position works in accordance with established development processes and established quality standards. The Designer II, Equipment manages aspects of the development process having to do with design creation in order to develop and engineer solutions to functional problems.

This position is in Newell Brands Technical Apparel (NBTA), a division of Newell Brands (NYSE: NWL), a globally-recognized designer, developer, marketer and retailer of high-performance technical apparel and equipment with a portfolio of brands that includes Marmot® and ExOfficio®.

Responsibilities:
• Contributes to the development of product development strategies to meet the needs of our consumers.
• Leads the innovation of features and benefit sets that enhance the usability of the product and drive consumer purchase.
• Manages the design and development process from insights to the commercialization of the product within the parameters of each brand’s strategy.
• Anticipates and validates the application of future trends, technologies and cultural drivers to expand and grow the assortment across all categories. Provides input to the Senior Category Manager for the development of annual and long range business plans based on these opportunities.
• Accountable for building profitable, market right, consumer driven product that is in line with the department and company financial targets.
• Builds productive relationships with factories, product development teams, mills and technology partners.
• Ensures product design execution is within target costs and margin requirements.
• Works with consumers, sales, marketing, business development, key accounts and athletes/brand ambassadors to build innovative new products that help our brands capture market share.
• Researches the global marketplace and interprets consumer and market needs as they relate to the respective product category. This includes researching construction, materials, fabric, color, and design concepts, then collecting feedback from customers and brand ambassadors/athletes. Attends selected trade shows for market research and attends sales meetings to gain thorough understanding of customer and product requirements.
• Accurately assesses the overall competitive market landscape to design brand appropriate equipment that reflects an understanding of the target consumer.
• Assists in developing sales strategies and stories for product based on unique innovation, sellable features that will enhance marketing of the product.
