Marmot is looking to hire a Textile and Graphic Designer in its Rohnert Park, California office.

The Designer I, Textiles and Graphics is responsible for bringing the vision of the Newell Brands Technical Apparel (NBTA) to life through innovative, trend-right prints and graphic designs. NBTA is a division of Newell Brands (NYSE: NWL), a globally-recognized designer, developer, marketer and retailer of high-performance technical apparel and equipment with a portfolio of brands that includes Marmot® and ExOfficio®. This position builds strong partnerships with creative peers to create – from concept to reality – original textile designs, prints, graphics and novelty fabrics seasonally. The Designer I, Textiles and Graphics stays current with print techniques and trends, works with senior designers to test new methods and provides input to the Design team and vendors on the best printing technique to achieve the desired visual effects that meet quality and cost targets.

Responsibilities:

• Interprets prints and graphics against a brief – collaborating and communicating closely with the designers, category managers and technical designers.
• Creates artwork with color/size/technique indication in compliance with seasonal timelines.
• Nurtures the brand identity and distinctive apparel offerings with a brand aligned design vision for each brand in the NBTA portfolio.
• Originates signature look and tone/voice of the brand through prints and graphics.
• Manages timelines and workflow to hit key dates and checkpoints. Works cross functionally with category managers, developers, and fabric mills to achieve brand and seasonal objectives.
• Collaborates with artists and experts to keep NBTA brands on the cutting edge of prints and graphics.
• Interprets, manipulates, revises and adjusts purchased studio artwork to meet aesthetic objectives.
• Prepares and coordinates artwork packages inclusive of mill and pitch sheets, vector art files, repeat, layout, scale and technique references for release to vendors.
• Ensures print and graphic execution meets all standards throughout the development process and proactively resolves execution issues with internal team and print/fabric vendors.
• Maintains print reference library historical archives and calibration of design studio color printers.
• Provides and updates artwork CADs for line sheets, seasonal workbooks and other presentations.
• Researches and travels to key regional markets for print trend and color analysis. Travels to printers, fabric mills and relevant trade shows as requested. Actively manages professional development.

Qualifications:

• University or four-year college degree in apparel/fashion design, graphics or equivalent combination of education and experience
• A minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience designing graphics for apparel in the outdoor, active wear or sportswear industries.
• Experience designing apparel graphics across categories with a record of commercial success.
• Expert level/exceptional/current Mac, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign skills.
• Avid trend researcher, market observer, and creator of art, font-work, textile/surface design and graphic direction.
• Strong understanding/connection with outdoor consumer both personally and professionally.
• Experience in research and analysis, design cycles, and managing complete product/collection cycle: o Strong knowledge in creating collections for the retail floor
o Strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction
o Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and comfortable in foreign work environments.

• Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses o Basic knowledge of textile and material construction and properties
o Basic knowledge of product costs and impact of design

• Practical knowledge of other functions such as sourcing, production, sales, marketing and merchandising preferred
• Self-starter who brings a level of passion, enthusiasm, and focus to their day to day business and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Obsessive attention to detail at the levels of graphic design and presentation
• Fast, efficient, nimble. Experience working in a shifting and collaborative environment with a great deal of constructive feedback and input
• Ability to not only lead fearlessly as a contributor, but also take direction and work with a team o • Able to manage and lead change
• Able to guide/collaborate among cross-functional teams to achieve business goals

• Presentation/speaking skills – able to present and sell to all levels of the organization as well as the customer, communicating a clear and inspiring vision o Strong oral and written communication skills
• High communication skills for both interpersonal relationships and presentation – the ability to influence all cross functional partners to deliver unrivaled graphic designs on time and on target

• Team player
• Proficiency in all Microsoft programs on a Mac
• Sense of humor and a passion for what you do
• Able to travel up to 20% of the year, including international travel to factories
