Job description: Mechanical Design and Product Development Engineer

Primary responsibilities:
- Take 2D artwork and convert it into a 3D CAD Surface and Solid models of various components and complete assemblies of helmets for motorcycle, bicycle and various other sporting helmets from inception to production
- Develop ideas from concept sketches and refine into functional products in 3D CAD
- Engineer and design mechanical mechanisms, joints, pivots and track systems and various other part attachment methods
- Fabrication of prototypes for evaluation
- Understanding and use of 3D printing and scanning systems
- Able to learn and use new engineering software as may be needed
- Evaluate product design with computer FEA, empirical lab testing and general engineering skills
- Plan, schedule and track the engineering project and their progress through the development cycle
- Coordinate with vendors/factories all functional steps to the product development life cycle and establish milestones and timelines and identify critical or problematic areas of the project development cycle
- Provide company management periodic updates of each project’s timeline status and any problem areas
- Manage document control of engineering project:
o Engineering CAD drawings, Design drawings, Project books/binders to include complete definition or design brief of each project, its documentation and specifications with Engineering support and management of product manuals and technical documents
- Coordination of samples from the vendors/factory of any needed product for the development of the projects
- Travel to factories for periodic visits and project management, (International travel required)
- Assist in sourcing and vetting potential new manufacturing partners/factories
- Helmet testing and data analysis as required
- Understanding and use of MATlab and LabVIEW are a plus
- Collaborate on revolutionary new product designs, development, and existing product enhancements with 6D staff
- Find creative solutions to engineering and manufacturing challenges while working within various helmet categories
Requirements and skills:
- Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Design degree required but will consider others with strong work experience in area of product design engineering and manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge and skillset with Solidworks 3D CAD with Top-Down assembly modeling experience and organic surfacing modeling experience. Will consider skills in other CAD such proE but Solidworks is our working CAD platform
- Able to travel to China and other international destinations 2 to 4 times per year with travel period of 7 to 14 days on average per trip
- Skilled with MS Office software, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Experience in analytical analysis of testing results is plus
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, detail oriented, strong communicator, able to wear many hats, and capable of working with varying amounts of input from team members within a fast paced environment.

Additional skills desired:
- Experience with impact testing equipment, accelerometers, data acquisition, and data analysis is a plus.
- Data file management and excellent organizational skills
- Experience in helmet design and manufacturing a plus
- Skilled in scheduling software a plus
- Understanding and use of MATlab and LabVIEW are a plus
