GU Energy is seeking a VP of Sales in Berkeley, CA (San Francisco Bay Area).
The Vice President of Sales is responsible for domestic and international sales at GU and achieving revenue and profitability objectives. S/he develops and executes business strategies that drive revenue, profitability, and development opportunities.
The VP of Sales is a member of GU’s executive team and reports to the COO. S/he contributes to and helps build GU’s Strategic Planning from both a broad business perspective and based on specific sales and industry expertise. This role has overall responsibility for all aspects of Sales and collaborates closely with all functions of the company, including Marketing, Innovation/R&D, Finance, HR, and Supply Chain Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represents the Sales function on the senior executive team and is accountable for sales strategy, execution, and results.
- Partners with the Senior Vice President Finance to develop and present the annual revenue budget to the COO and Board of Directors.
- Builds sales strategies to achieve budget and forecast revenue in alignment with company strategy.
- Develops sales process controls that protect the business from eroding gross margin and ensures that the EBITDA target is achieved.
- Identifies and manages Key Performance Indicators in the sales function.
- Develops, plans, and drives all sales initiatives and support activities to achieve company revenue and profitability goals for all products and all channels of distribution to retailers and distributors.
- Analyzes market and consumer research/data and advises organization on market trends, threats, and opportunities; provides analysis on competitive pricing.
- Regularly evaluates company product line and makes recommendations based on field research/demand/data.
- Provides updated sales forecasts to Finance and Operations.
- Oversees efforts to build brand strength and recognition in key markets/accounts; collaborates with Marketing on merchandising strategy and tactics.
- Provides Marketing with input on effective promotion campaigns.
- Participates in new product development, working closely with Vice President of Innovation and other leaders in a cross-functional process.
- Creates meaningful community. Cultivates high-touch relationship with key retailers and industry influencers; seeks new business relationships beneficial to GU’s growth strategy; promotes positive relationships with business partners, consumers, customers, vendors, and GU team.
- Directly manages major and/or strategic accounts as appropriate and oversees management of all other accounts.
- Builds, organizes, and leads Sales function, both internally and externally (independent sales reps as well as internal regional sales managers and reps).
- Develops a business savvy sales team focused on continuous improvement, teamwork, and revenue generating performance; hires, evaluates, coaches, develops and plans succession Sales team members.
- In partnership with HR and Finance, designs sales commission/bonus programs that reward smart growth aligned with company strategy.
- Manages department budget; all expenses and capital expenditures.
- Identifies and, as needed with collaboration from other leaders, secures automation and other productivity tools for the Sales team.
- Partners with other executive leaders to ensure business decisions that involve Sales are consistent with the Company’s culture, values and philosophy.
- Represents GU at community events and non-profit activities and/or business functions as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
