About the job
The Gear Editor is responsible for managing all Bike’s online and print gear content. The gear editor tests and reviews products, and must possess an understanding of the products currently available on the market. You know how many pawls are in an Industry Nine hub and why it matters. You know what Plus Size, Boost spacing and Metric sizing are, and better yet, you have an opinion on them.
Essential duties:
• Prioritizes, tracks, handles, and maintains records of the elements, costs, and time schedules of multiple projects.
• Consults with client or supervisor to evaluate individual project needs.
• Reads copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
• Verifies facts, dates, and statistics.
• Rewrites or modifies copy to clarify meaning and to conform to publication's style and editorial policy.
• Writes or rewrites headlines and captions according to publication requirements.
• Confers with writers regarding changes made to copy.
• Marks copy for print, using standardized code to indicate how type should be set.
• Reads galley and page proofs to detect errors, and uses standardized code to indicate corrections.
• Initiates or replies to correspondence regarding material published or being considered for publication.
