Maintenance D-Tech Job in McDonough, VT

Position Summary: This is a routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual work position in general maintenance, facilities, construction, or labor activities. The position also represents an entry-level job into the maintenance department and requires a minimum score of 45 (out of 68) on a standardized mechanical aptitude test for maintenance candidates and a score of 40 (out of 68) for facilities candidates.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities of the Job:

Integrate Safe work practices into every new task assigned and learn new safe behaviors from senior maintenance technicians.
Apply learned behaviors to new assignments.
Perform work in caring for grounds and facility requiring minimal knowledge, skills and abilities. Such work might include changing light fixtures, hanging pictures, storing files, setup and/or take-down of tables, etc. Demonstrate customer focus by maintaining a neat and clean work area during both localized and shop-area projects.
Sweep aisles, walkways, and underneath equipment as time permits or need requires..
Move and carry heavy material such as pipe, lumber, gravel, sand, or furniture.
Assist skilled maintenance workers in performing a wide variety of assignments including conduit installation, conveyor repairs, preventive maintenance tasks, and other work.
Wash and clean vehicles, tools, and equipment. Maintain pallet storage/refurbishing area.
Repair interior and exterior building related issues including driving company vehicles to refuel and purchase supplies for maintenance and repair jobs.
Perform minor plumbing such as drain cleanout, faucet repair, and pluggage removal. Assist with electrical installation in the capacity of an electricians helper providing wire ties, wire pulling, conduit bending help, etc.
Perform routine mechanical HVAC tasks such as filter element changing and coil cleaning.
Touch-up paint and assist with routine miscellaneous day to day activities related to buildings and grounds upkeep.
Assist preventive maintenance programs related to infrastructure equipment and safety concerns. This includes roof leak detection and prevention, pest removal, and pressure washing of exterior structures.
Execute repair and maintenance of building structure, (walls, floors, roofs, etc.). Maintain building equipment such as generators, compressors, chillers, condensers, etc.
The ability to work in a constant state of alertness
Perform other duties as assigned.

Internal : Maintenance Manager, Supervision, Operations Manager, Fellow Associates

External : Limited contact with contract services (i.e. pallet removal service) .

Decision Making:

1. Determine best methods/timing for sweeper routing.
2. Makes safety/repair recommendations to maintenance manager

Resourcefulness/Creativity: Associate should be effective in dealing with recurring problems.

Environment:

1. Must be able to crawl, bend, lift heavy motors, withstand heat, climb, work at 40 - 50 ft. heights.
2. Must be able to stand most or all of shift
3. Must be able to distinguish different wire colors

Qualifications & Experience:

Experience: Prefer 2 -3 years experience in routine labor work.

Education: Prefer High School Diploma or GED, effective communication skills.
Skills: Must possess ability to acquire some skill in the use of standard equipment and hand tools peculiar to the area of assignment. Ability to learn repetitive tasks quickly. Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
