The Designer I role is responsible for independently creating an entire classification from initial concept to final execution. S/he must know how to merchandise groupings to ensure distinction from each other yet maintain the look of the brand. Robust knowledge of fabric construction, finishes, and garment construction is necessary to achieve success in this role.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:
Gather conceptual/trend ideas via competitive/inspirational store shopping, internet research, and forecasting services appropriate for the brand.
Create seasonal concept boards using imagery, fabric swatches, and garments for presentations; boards should be executed as physical boards or virtually using design software.
Analyze past best sellers for future development.
Create color palette using Pantone or ArchRoma colors as standard.
Select pattern work and CAD pattern work for design development boards that follow correct fabric construction.
Prepare fabric development sheets to be passed off to raw material sourcing group.
Create detailed garment sketches via Illustrator.
Develop garment and packaging trims in conjunction with design lead.
Create groupings independently and select fabrication, pattern work, and colorations that make each grouping distinct from one another, yet remain brand appropriate.
Work with garment and fabric sourcing teams to ensure fabrications and garment details meet appropriate target prices.
Present groupings at design development meetings ensuring to take notes on revisions and changes for balance of the area.
After line adoption prepare information to be passed off to PDA for input into WEB PDM.
Cross-check packages for accuracy upon completion.
Responsible for all lab dip, knit down, and handloom commenting.
Attend fittings to ensure fit is appropriate for the brand; notate all revisions that will need to be made to sketches and WEB PDM.
Partner with manager to ensure samples are accurate and communicate any discrepancies to PDA and sourcing teams.
Present portion of line to outside licensees.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Experience: 3 to 5 years design experience

Education: Bachelors degree

Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of Kaledo textile software and Illustrator/Photoshop
Technical knowledge of fabric and garment construction.
Strong problem solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent color & visual sensibility.
Strong prioritization and organization skills
