About the job
Reporting to the CEO and serving as an integral member of the senior leadership team, the VP Product Development will be responsible for developing and managing all new and future product lines in multiple categories across various distribution channels.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a strategic vision for the Company’s product portfolio, set short and long-term goals for the product development team, and manage the product development process from inception to market launch.
Overall, this executive will be responsible for creating a culture of high performance and continuous improvement throughout the small 4 person product development group.
A background in marketing multiple price points across multiple channels is required, and experience in a “speed-to-market” industry would be a plus.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
• Develop and manage implementation of a strategic vision for the Company’s product portfolio that will support Company financial goals. This includes developing guidelines for selecting future licensing agreements.
• Identify and evaluate opportunities for expansion into new categories.
• Work closely with the V.P. Marketing and the Sr. V.P. Sales to identify market opportunities and develop strategies for launching new products into the marketplace.
• Establish short and longer-term priorities for the product development group and lead product development from initial inception to finished product launch.
• Manage all product development activities to ensure the group meets the needs of the organization, addresses consumer needs across multiple distribution channels, and delivers product on time and on budget.
• Work closely with the sales team to develop product plans, channel strategies and pricing guidelines. Define and maintain target margins for all products.
• Oversee consumer research to help guide product development activities, and regularly evaluate competitive and general market trends.
• Oversee the judicious use of external design resources to augment internal team expertise and deliver on the product vision.
• Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to ensure seamless communication and the successful launch of new products into the market.
• Stay abreast of market dynamics and define implications on product strategies.
• Evaluate the performance of all product releases and guide end-of-life decisions.
• Establish and maintain relationships with current and future Licensors.
